When do they start 'eating'?

My LO hates being spoonfed, so I have started giving him finger foods instead. He seems to enjoy tasting things but doesn't seem to be really eating anything. Is this normal? And if so when do they start? X

We've always done BLW but I'd say James has started proper eating from about 9 months?

Before that he's taste and nibble and play but wouldn't actually ingest much. Now he actually eats. Still not a huge amount but enough for me to have a rough idea of how much he's had.
