on flying. im only wondering because its my 21st Birthday in June and with me being pregnant alcohol and party/night out on the lash is out of the question, although even if i wasnt pregnant i probably wouldnt want to do that, i did it for my 18th so fancy doing something different.

Anyway back on the question lol OH asked me the other night what i wanted for my birthday, i had been going on about going on holdiday before the baby is born but we cant really afford it, well i cant anyway, so he suggested he paid for a birthday present for me, BUT with June not to far away we may not get off in time for my birthday, which i dont mind, but just wondering what the limit on pregnant women is on flying, is it 30 something weeks?!?

thanks :)

Depends on the airline and insurance company.

When I went the insurance company wouldn't cover me if I was over 22 weeks and we got back at 21+4. The insurance was a yearly one you get free with a bank account so that was probably why it was so early.

I think for me personally the week I went was my limit as It was a bit of a squash getting the food tray down and getting down the aisles.

How many weeks will you be then?

I asked my mid wife this yesterday! Im due on 14th october and flying in August.

Most airlines will let you fly up to 36 weeks. some ask you have to take a doctors certificate so its best to get one of these a week or so before you fly just to be on the safe side. They usually cost £5 - £10 and your GP will give you it not your MW.

Just make sure you have travel insurance - the post office have good deals on a years worth insurance at the moment!

I'm flying next week :cheer: and will be 24 weeks when I'm away. Most airlines are fine with you up to about 32 weeks but often need a letter from your midwife from between 28-32 weeks. Also if you're expecting twins the deadline is earlier.

Hope you find a nice deal and enjoy your birthday and last holiday without the baby ;)

Like Hazel (again) my insurance wouldn't cover me after 22 weeks and I was just over this so had to get another policy. very annoying as it had been free! My new policy only took me up to 26 weeks and most airlines don't like you to fly in the last 8 weeks or so in case you give birth early- they don't like to put their staff through that!
I was just about ok on the plane, although the tray just hit the edge of my tummy so it was difficult to eat! Its very uncomfortable but if you can get your oh to pay for extra leg room do it! My dh was too much of a scrooge. :shakehead:
I asked the check in for a seat near (but not too near) the toilets and on the aisle so I didn't have to disturb anyone getting up but it was a young boy and he was more concerned with making sure I was allowed to fly than helping me out.

I just went to France last week to visit my Nan, and no one asked me anything at the airport or on board and even managed to sneak into the emergency exit seats for eatra leg room!

BUT we we're only popping to my Nans, and all my family are French so have always popped back and fourth and not had insurance so I would follow the advice of the above girls on that.

My friend is an air hostess and think she said they allow women to fly up to 32 weeks (Thomas Cook) but may ask for a note from the doctor to confirm your fit to fly.

I did check with my midwife before I left but she just said I'd be fine :)

I looked this up, most companies will insure you up until 32 weeks, and you can generally fly until the same, though i think some airlines do let you go further on.

I think a little trip sounds good! Unfortunately i'll be too far on when my birthday comes (35 weeks) so i cant do the same even though i wanted too

Its about 8 years since i worked in retail travel and then airlines varied between 28-32 weeks max.
I have just found this though:
Airlines have different rules regarding the upper limit beyond which they would not allow a pregnant woman to fly. As a general guide, almost all airlines decline to fly women beyond 36 weeks of gestation and for some it is 34 weeks. In the phase between 28 and 36 weeks, most airlines will demand that the passenger bring her doctor’s letter stating that she is fit to fly and that she is unlikely to go into labour within 36 hours.

Beyond the rules, a pregnant woman can do a few things to facilitate smooth travel. If unsure about the airlines regulations, it is worthwhile to contact customer services to ensure there will not be any last minute hiccups at the boarding gate. That call can also be used to request a bulkhead seat with more legroom. Of-course if she can afford it, a pregnant woman can book a first/business class seat as these tend to have a flat bed option.

Twin Pregnancy and Flying
If a woman is carrying twins or any other form of multiple pregnancy, she needs to be more cautious since her risk of going into labour early is significantly higher and of-course any labour in the skies with twins is likely to pose a much more formidable challenge. The cut-off points for flying should therefore be a lot lower.

easy jet let you fly up to 35 weeks... you need a letter if your between 28-35 weeks to confirm its safe for you to fly. We are going on holiday when im 30+6 for a week... the insurance company will cover me up until 32 weeks & we fly back at 31+6 hehehehe if you need the insurance details give me a shout as it was only cheap :D

I flew at 23 weeks long haul and it wasn't a problem. My insurance covered me until 28 weeks. Most airlines let you fly until about 32-34 weeks but after 27 weeks they like a doctors note saying your fit to fly (the GP charges for this)

I wore flight socks on the flight becuse of the slight increased chance of getting DVT. Also check in online of possible to get an aisle seat because you'll probably need to pee every 10 mins
