Please let me share this little story with you, it a very happy one
About a year ago a good friend of mine made me a wonderful offer, he has a vehicle, 1970 Bedford ambulance which he has lovingly converted into a camper. He converted it for 3 people and then his partner had another little baby so its not really ideal for their needs, shes been going on and on at him to get rid of it (more because its been SORN in the driveway for about 2 years than anything else i think!) and he finally decided it was one project he didnt need and has decided to pass it on to a friendly couple who will love it, restore it and take it on its travels (Me and Liam )
So we nagged and nagged, we wanted this bus, but its got some weilding that needs doing urgently, it needs a new battery and some tyres sorting out etc and we are pretty unmechanically
We bugged him for a year, he was ALWAYS telling us that he had this mate who could do the weilding and he would sort it and yadda yadda
a year later, we still have no camper
So i let it lie, carried on with life and eventually when me and Liam discussed it we decided we would take 2000, knock on his door and say 'look mate, either you give us this camper and we will spend this 2000 doing it up... Or we are off to buy one to convert ourselves)
thing is, we would struggle to find a vehicle this cool, we are talking stain glass windows, woodburner, dark wood conversion with a bed in the floor and buggy headlights... this is a classic vehicle, its just been under a tarp for 3 years and needs a love injection to get it back to life.
Then, about 2 weeks ago i ran into an old old festival friend who lives up the road from me but who i rarely seem to see - you know how life just waves you about and you dont see people as much as you would like...
Well we got chatting, got chilling and it transpires that her OH is in the poo, his vehicles broken down at just the wrong moment, needs an MOT and hes supposed to be working Glastonbury this week...
So i said 'take my car' she was a bit amazed by this, but Clem only cost me 200quid so its not like i have to worry about her too much and you want to help out a friend - also Liam is always making me drive about and i should be resting so it was a good excuse to put me feet up for a week and have the excuse of having no car
She went away and ended up asking if that was cool, he came and took the car the next day - he was so sweet and saying 'i really want to pay you back, how can i help you?' i was like 'dude its fine, have known Julie for years and shes always looked after me (this is the lady whose been sneaking me into festivals for almost a decade ) and eventually he says 'do you need any weilding done'
so in true Fi fashion i said 'well i have this vehicle but my mate Tim is waiting on some space cadet to do some weilding for it'
to which he replied - 'what Tim xxxx?'
'yeah' i said
'yeah i am the guy doing the weilding' says Chris
Well that was a shock, turns out Chris has been eager to do the job for an age but we have never really got it together
so, now, my car is at Glastonbury, i have a free van and a mechanic who is desperate to fix it for free and tomorrow Tim is coming to sign over the documents to me so that we can just work on it in our own time!
Am soooo excited, will show pictures when i can, it needs a bit of roofing sealant, a few bits n bobs put on but that are already bought and an MOT
I GOT ME A FREE, CLASSIC, TAX EXEMPT CAMPER!!!
soooo happy, just shows that doing people a favour really does pay off sometimes
