for the arrival of baby???

we havent bought anything yet and although i would rather leave things such as clothes and stuff until i find out the sex, me and OH are sooo eager to go out and start buying bits and bobs...

.....but we dont really know what we need!!

any help mummies??? :)

I found that Finn HATED (and still hates!) having his coat & hat put on. We found that snow suits were too big and awkward too. Sooooo...
I wish that I'd had one of these.... http://www.morrck.com/hoodie.php?osCsid ... 74035fe51d
from birth! A friend of mine gave me theirs when their baby grew out of it! They're fab - the harness goes through it and you can use it in the car seat or pram and it keeps them lovely and toasty!

I have NEVER used my top & tail bowl though.

Looking back, here's what I couldn't live without!

Clothes for baby - even if it's just cheapy white bodies/sleepsuits. We go through them like nobody's business!

A packet of nappies of your choice. We'll be switching to reuseables at some point when we're over the exhaustion! For now we're using Nature babycare nappies.

Muslin squares - these are absolutely fantastic.

A little box to put all the changing bits and pieces in to cart them around the house.

A choice of blankets. Tried our LO in a baby sleeping bag and she hated it. Got several as presents so will try again when she's a bit older.

TONS of cotton wool. Wipes really irritate Becky's skin so I had to get a load of cotton wool in!

Have a look at some online checklists

Gives you an idea and you can see what you like the sound of and have time to find out if you think you'll need it.

I'm a minimalist so have way less than lots of people. But it still stacks up.

Always worth starting to look at car seats and prams/pushcahirs/travel systems early even if you don't get them till later.

best thing to do is to start looking now but don't buy - build up a wish list so you ahve decided which model pushchair for example and work out what you can afford - then put the list away for a couple of weeks. If you HAVE to buy anything get muslin squares or hooded towels or size 2 nappies. so you won't waste your money.

Then get the list out again and see if it needs updating - try the buggies out in the shops - ask on here about bottles, sterilisrs cot etc to see if anyone has your "dreamone"! and if it is worth it - then update your list and put it away again.

Save up enough money to buy 1 and a half times what your list costs! and then repeat!

and although it is very tempting - remember that as long as baby has somewhere to sleep, nappies and a couple of baby gros +/- a car seat if you drive you can actually buy things once babe is here and you know what ~YOU~ actually need :)

Lots  I'd say big essentials are pram, car seat, bedroom furniture (moses basket, changing table/mat), bath chair, baby monitors and a steriliser.

Other smaller essentials: sheets for moses basket, cellular blankets, muslins, top and tail bowl.

Toiletries: sponge, vaseline, sudocream, olive oil, loads of cotton wool, nappies.

That's where we started with our buying.

I guess alot of it will also depend on your style of parenting whether or not you are gonna breastfeed, whether baby will be in your room or not(monitors)...we didnt bother so saved ourselves some cash there didnt need sterilizer and stuff either tbh I breastfeed ..never used a pram just used a sling and pushchair when she was strong enough to hold her head... these things you might wanna think about .. coz half the stuff you buy you probably wont use. :D

Essentials ..Car seat, a few clothes, somewhere for baby to sleep ..unless you are co-sleeping ..then just somewhere for LO to kip in the day...and bedding for that. Few nappies...I never used a baby bath either took baby in with me ...alot of it will come down to how you want to raise your LO. Ive never used any cosmetics or creams on seeds skin and her skin is lush. Lots to think about :D

Goodluck like smile said come down to bare essentials ..you will know what your LO wants and likes after a few weeks xx

You and I sound quite alike in many things. We've not got a monitor or anything for bottle feeding. We've got the pushchair but the pram converts into a sit up seat once they are old enough so it'll get a fair bit of use before we have to change over to the buggy.

And like you I don't go for creams and stuff.

We really did keep it minimal. No change table, just a mat, no specific kiddies bedroom furniture till LO is older. We've got the basics and not much else really. We had a longer list originally but I kept revising it over the weeks and we whittled it right down and have done pretty well. So many things you could buy that as you say, you will probably never use or hardly use. Loads of the things out there now are gimick things and not really needed for a baby. But they keep on making them and people keep on buying them

muslin squares - I constantly have one with me and need to buy more

lots of cotton wool

as well as what the other ladies have mentionec but these 2 are my must haves!

Join your local freecycle group aswell cos there are some lovely generous people out there who pass on everything you need in a bundle for free ;) Can't think of anything to add on to what people have said already.

i hear you girls talking about Muslin Squares alot but have no idea what they are hehe
