For Baby:
- Changing mat
- Bibs
- Nappies
- Talc
- Sudacrem (or something to soothe nappy rash)
- Top & tail bath
- Cotton wool & buds
- Steriliser
- Bottles
- Formula (even if you are planning to BF, if it doesn't work it's handy to have some ready so you don't have a mad rush incase you or baby don't take to it!)
- Cot sheets
- Bouncer
(Can't think of much more?! lol I bet I've missed loads!!)
Hmmm I'd leave off Sudocrem, top and tail bowl, talc and any other lotions and potions. Babies skin doesn't need it in the early weeks. Also Sudocrem is a barrier cream and you can get really good natural alternatives to help prevent/heal sore bottoms in babies.
If planning to BF I'd suggest not getting all the steriliser and formula stuff and try sticking with BF'ing in the early days. I felt that if I had all that stuff in the house if things got a bit tough (and the first 6 weeks are make no mistake) then I'd maybe resort to it when it wasn't really needed. Even if you think you are not making enough milk, the more you let baby demand feed from your boobs the better your supply will establish. Can always send someone out to get a couple of bottles and a few cartons if need be. Just IMHO is all.
As others have said, Mothercare and places have lists. TBH you don't *need* half of it. Somewhere for baby to sleep, bedlinen, sleepsuits, nappies etc. So many things are really superfluous and not worth spending money on.
I am the minimalist queen and I still think I have far too much stuff. And I never use half of it. We were given all the smellies and wipes etc and I've not used any of it.
Best buy was our Tiny Love mobile for over the cot/basket. Once LO got to 3 or 4 weeks it was a lifesaver.
Now LO is a bit bigger is when we are spending the cash. Things like a play pen, monitor, more advanced toys, highchair etc.
