Why did you choose the dog you have,

Did they furfill all your expectations,

Have you breed them and how did this work out?

If you dont have a dog do you intend to get one in the future and why?

If no then is there a reason for your choice?

Why did you choose the dog you have,
I have a greyhound and have another one coming shortly as well. I chose her because she had beautiful sad eyes that were pleading for a lovely home and to be looked after. They are also the only dog that can truly smile and can fetch slippers at a rate of 45 miles a hour. They are truly a gentle breed that like to sleep all day.

Did they furfill all your expectations,
Yes, my Mia is absolutely wonderful, she is wonderful with the children, she gives kisses when im feeling sad and is my shadow! She is just lovely and isnt a lot of hard work at all.

Have you breed them and how did this work out?
No. I had all my girl spayed last week as I love her too bits and dont want her to have puppies. Shes a family pet, not something for me to make money off.

If you dont have a dog do you intend to get one in the future and why?
Wel i have a second one coming within the next week.

If no then is there a reason for your choice?
Non applicable

We did have a dog, but Alana became allergic to him so we had to make a really tough decision to re home him. He was a german shepherd. my fav breed as they are very loyal and love working/training.

Since then she has out grown her allergy to them 2 years later so we are looking at getting another but this house is alot smaller then last one, so we are looking at getting a springer spaniel and doing some gun dog training with him so I can take it shooting, and when we next move house we want a bigger garden and will get another shepherd too, so the kids wil have a dog each.

I find these breeds both fun but alot of work, they need extra work to keep the brains active or they do tend to get bored. Ive never bred a dog myself, but knows some one that has recently had a litter of spaniels..such cute puppies.

Ive never really looked into greyhounds but whenever ive seen them they've always looked so placid and kind.
Are you getting a pup, I just love puppies, there so naughty but funny
Do you not think you can have your dogs as family pets but still breed them?

paradysso:

I love german shepherds also.
You are right about them needing lots of stimulation but if you have the time and right circumstances then you get a lot back.
I am going to get another dog when I move but not sure about this breed just yet as I dont think ill have the time to train it.

No not a puppy, they are way too much work! I had snuggles a while ago and it put me off for life :D
I took mia to the vets last week and I met the lady i got her off who runs our local Retired Greyhound Trust, and she told me that Mias brother was available. From the same litter so Im getting him as I had always wanted him.

Yes. We probably want to get a Border Collie, although love Greyhounds, too.
While Greyhounds are great family dogs, they tire to quickly and wouldn't be really up for mountain days, Collies are much more cut out for this.

this was our german shepherd with Alana

I have 2 dogs but have had experience with 100,s (foster).
My Setter is a nutter and i would never ever recomend them as a first dog, far too demanding and naughty if not trained properly, lots of peoplke will say never let a setter off the lead as they dont come back, which is rubbish again if trained properly. She is the soppiest most fab dog ever and wouldnt hurt a flea, i was brought up with a setter so knew what i was doing when i got her.
When we got Anoushka we had never had a St Bernard before but i had researched them and as i have the experience of dogs that i do it wasnt a real problem, she is fab, very obedient, very funny and very loyal, everyone adores her.
My husband had a Miniature Manchester Terrier who died the year before last at the age of 23, i didnt like her atall, partly because im just not a fan of little dogs so bad start but also she was a spoilt brat, i still treated her well as i would never have taken it out on her, however she did learn to behave like a dog and not a child pretty quick and was kicked out of my bed on day 1!!!!
I really dont know what i would have if i got another but we are hoping to breed from Anoushka next year if her hips etc are good but Henna has problems so although i wont spey her we will never breed from her.

There are several dogs that are really not suitable for inexperienced dog owners and lots of these end up in rescue at between 6 months to a year.

my parents had a st bernard and a old english sheep dog when i was a baby :rotfl: they were crazy... and they only had a teeny weeny car.

I had a gorgeous Staffordshire Bull Terrier who died not long ago :(
He was great! A bit giddy when he was younger but great with the kids!

I know  they run round and poop, chew your stuff and pee on your floor :wall:

Why did you choose the dog you have,
At the rescue centre she was the only dog hiding in the corner not barking. She was all scared and alone, I wanted to take her home and love her!

Did they furfill all your expectations,
Yes. She is the greatest dog ever. It took a long while for her to come out of her shell. She was extremely mistreated so much so that when she was resuced with her brother, he died not long after. She is a completely different dog now, full of life and so happy :cheer:

Have you breed them and how did this work out?
No. I always wanted her to have puppies but because shes from the RSPCA she had been spaded.

i voted no, but hopefully it'll be yes soon - well, it will be when we've moved house and that all depends on the sales market blah blah...

anyway, we'll be getting a border collie. they're the only breed i've ever really known and i love their temperament, personality and intelligence. however i wouldn't recommend the breed to anyone who doesn't know what they're like; i know border collie rescue won't give them to anyone who hasn't had a collie before... and from past experience i wouldn't have an older rescue collie around a baby. i'm planning on getting a bitch puppy and having her spayed.

all our previous collies have been brilliant; all very different, but all wonderful dogs.

i can't wait to have another collie :cheer: :cheer:

Jumping in here...

I am not keen on people who keep a dog as a pet breeding from it/them tbh. Mainly as usually the dog they breed from not to the greatest standard of the breed. I feel dog breeding of pedigrees is usually better left to breeders/showers so as to make sure decent dogs are bred and sold. OK so there are some not so good breeders out there but if you go by reputation and so on you can find a good breeder of pedigree dogs for sure. We always have. You also have more recourse to help etc from a breeder. And if for any reason you cannot keep the pup/dog the breeder will have it back. Many pet dog breeders don't do this.

If a dog is bought as a pet then it should be a pet. So many people breed from their pets and then you have the problem with selling poorly bred dogs often without proper predigree or registration etc. Its usually a way for people to make a quick £1000 :/ I find it a bad way to go about getting a pedigree dog and would never do this.

I'll bbiab to answer you questions :) LO is yelling at his Dad a lot

Iv got this type, shes amazing love her to bits softest most stupid dog iv ever met, belives the pond weeds are her arch enemy lol
tilllls.jpg

Wouldnt breed he as itd be entirely irresponsible with so many of the rescues being full of bull breeds at the min !

i had a Doberman when Cameron was little, she was called Lucy and was a beautiful good natured dog.

I had to give her up for adoption as she was a bit of a nutter and going out with the pram and the dog was impossible.

Broke my heart when she left but she went to stay on a farm, and i have nice images of her running about like an phsyco.

Id love another but Brians son has Asthma so we would need a hairless/non shedding breed. And also are a bit short of dog sitters while on oliday etc. So i doubt it will happen

Exactly why my bitch was spayed last week, she's a pet not a money making machine.

I have a four year old greyhound cross. He's loopy and we've had him for three years.

Why did you choose the dog you have

I went to the rescue centre with a few ideas as to breeds, a lurcher hadn't even entered my mind tbh but he won me over very quickly. He was in a kennel with several other lurchers (so many of them end up in rescue :() most of whom had pushed to the front to say hello and he was alone bouncing up and down at the back trying to get our attention.

Did they furfill all your expectations

And more.

Have you breed them and how did this work out?

I wouldn't do that, no. There are literally thousands of dogs already out there in need of good homes. I'm not about to add to the numbers.

I dont totally agree,
My mum has had dogs which are reguarded as pets and breed them (only ever once thou), They are all registered and she knows what shes doing .
What shouldypu do with the dogs your breeding btw.
Keep them in kennels?.
All dogs should be treat as pets as it teaches them to be good around people and in a home inviroment.
Tbh it makes no sense what you are saying imo.
I do agree thou that there are a lot of greedy people who will breed dogs with no papers and be clueless about the dogs they are breeding.
