We're trying to think of welsh names which people can actually pronounce as there's nothing worse than spending your life teaching people how to say your name.

Was just wondering if any of you non-welshies have ever heard of the name "Owain" and if you think you could pronounce it! Thanks :)

Non-welsh here but it looks like O-in. We have an Irish version Owen :)

Lovely name, am I right?

my son is Rhys Owen,
i thought both were welsh.

can be spelt Reece but i think Rhys is better

Its a different name to owen, pronounced like "oh - wine" . I think everyone will just end up calling him Owen and he will get fed up of correcting them, so maybe we should just go with Owen. lol

Yeah Owen is a welsh name too, and Rhys is the welsh spelling. I love the name Rhys and I used to think I would cal my little one Rhys but then I met this one child who has put me off the name for ever!

My fav welsh name is Ffion! I love it and I dont think that's difficult to pronounce.

This is a good one...... Ieuan :) as in the rugby player......that's likely to have non Welshies getting it wrong

people always spell Rhys Reece drives me mad.

Owen was chosen by my daughter and pretty much goes with most names as a middle name
i love rhys though, i think its a nice, baby, child, teen, middle aged man, and pensioner name

Are you only looking for boys names!?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Cerys... its my best friends name and we are thinking of including it if we have a girl. She spells it Ceris though.... I have also seen it Karis. Lovely and Welsh! x

We really love Dewi too but I worry people will call him dewey (as in rhymes with louis) Bryn is out thanks to Gavin and Stacey. We keep thinking of loads of names, but really hate them being mispronounced! We have loads of ideas for girls names, favourite at the moment is Mali and second is Katryn. Cerys is out cos of one child I met at work (shudder!)

My Mum was gonna call me Lowri but the nurse in the hospital thought she said Lorry. and that ruined it!

*dohh* everybody says it l-hour-ee and it really pisses me off!

ive never seen gavin and stacey (got season 1 for xmas ready to watch) so that wouldnt bother me lol

My friend is called Catrin.. its one of those than can be spelt a million ways too!

Hehe they probably get it from that film Bad Boys, Will Smith's character is called Mike Lowrey (pronounced l-hour-ee). its a mine field choosing these names. OH text me at work suggesting Aled. Im not sure how I feel about that one.

oh i LOVE aled!!!

also on our girls list was Nia

OMG When I was in school I always used to say I would call my daughter Nia and I totally forgot until you just said! oohhhh, how exciting!

:D :D woohoo ... Ffion was nearly called Nia Angharad!!
