I think if ANYONE is bound to take offence at this then they should turn away now lol

I have a few mates who have called their kids (what i would consider) quite weird things.

i want opinions on them

Cushla (girl)

Ocean (boy)

Luca Reuben (boy) - i dont mind these names seperately but together... i just dont think they 'work'

Rafi Jo (boy) - have to say this is growing on me!

Magenta (girl) - Reminds me of the rocky horror picture show!

So come on, what do you think of the above names? Is there anything you wouldnt call your babies?

Please dont take offence to this, everyone is different, the amount of people that told me that Jasper was a 'dogs' name is quite astounding! (of course now he is here and called that they have all changed their tunes except for one really horrid relative)

So anything you wouldnt DREAM of calling your wee one? Or names you've heard that you have found odd?

My nan had a dog called Jasper  its probably becoming more popular because of the Twilight franchise though!

I can't think of any names that i wouldn't call my child off the top of my head, but someone would have to tell me one for me to go "urgh". I quite like Luca, but i agree that it doesn't really go with Reuben. My mum named my brother Ieuan - which might not seem like a weird name to the Welsh, until its pronounced and find she just made up her own pronunciation, so he is known as yay-un, which isn't even a real name

I think Luca is an okay name I just dislike it with Reuben... i really tried with Jasper to make sure he had a middle name that 'fit' in with him... It is Liams dads middle name though (and Liams) his dad died 2 months before Jaspers birth so it means a lot that a bit of him has been passed down

Elizabeth is my mum and my middle names... so i quite like it really because of that but i do think it 'works' as well..

Luca Reuben just seems a bit disjointed to me...

I know an ocean jade who's a girl. She's really dull looking and I think to pull off a name like that u need to be exceptionally gorgeous!

I know what you mean, its not the best combination! I'm glad we're having a girl, a girl's name was easy but the boy's was hard! My OH's dad died last year so my OH wanted to have the middle name as Neil in honor of his dad - a lovely idea, but nothing goes with Neil. The closest i got was Ryan Neil as there is Ryan O'Neil and that works  but after awhile my OH hated Ryan

Hahahah my second name is Ryan :D

its okay i wont take offence <sob>

i think the weirdest name up there is DEFINITELY 'Cushla' i think its bordering on cruelty to be honest!!

I think Ocean is a really BIG name, it doesnt really leave room for someone to be dull does it? The Ocean is enormous!

Same with Oak (i know a little boy called Oak) seems like a lot to live up too!

I have a few I definitely wouldn't call my kids! Here goes:

Truly Scruptious
Summer Strawberry Fields Forever
Deejay Kris Evans (poor poor child)
Alfie Robert Ernie Terry Millwall Glasscock (my fav of all time!!)
Bear October Orion Matthews (his mum called him Beary!)

they are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head - and I apologise if anyone has called their child any of these!

Interesting thread only "odd" name i can think of imo is a friends relative called their boy Horatio, maybe not odd to some, its certainly different!!

People think how you pronounce my eldest name is weird, her name is Lauryn but we pronounce it Lorin.

I def think some celebs need their heads checking with their choice of names! xx

My cousin just called her some Korben! Am having to say it over and over to get used to it!
XxX

I'm not keen on the whole 'unique' name business. Each baby IS unique, it doesn't need an outlandish or misspelt name to make him/her special.

My number one pet peeve is giving children surnames as first names.

The surnames thing just made me think my girls would be called

Wilson and Payne lol xxx

I know of a woman who called her daughter Lana even after being informed that it spells anal backwards... I always thought that to be a little strange, and mean tbh.. but then again the woman in question is a complete twunt..

:rotfl: that made me giggle, why would you do that to your child? xx

I knew a girl, who called her kid Alfie (i know doesnt seem that weird)

but her family pet DOG is called Alfie... and still living

weird

Well I have a Herbie Elvis and I'm sure he's one of a kind lol
I love the fact ppl didn't like his name made me like it more.
I couldn't think if anything worse then a name in the top 10 names.
I understand why lots of people don't go for weird names but I need to get thinking of my 4 th so am keeping an eye on this thread lol

great tread lol God i have loads but just drawing a blank today as im feelin icky again

but friends of my mam just had a girl and named her edith-paulina which i just think is horrible that is a double barraled first name rather than first and middle by the way

I don't know why but Cushla makes me think of a push up bra...how strange

Cushla is an Irish name, quite common in Ireland, I think it's a lot less cruel than naming your child Ocean! But different strokes for different folks :)

I have to laugh at the Luca reuben as our family dog is called reuben! I've heard of someone who called their son felix after their cat that they'd just had to put down which I found strange.
Also I know someone who named their son Kito. Every time I hear it I think their saying kiddo! According to them it's a traditional Cornish name but none of the Cornish I work with know the name, although there's a high school which doesn't have the best rep with Kito in the name.

Ocean! Lol cushla reminds me of chuselle loo roll!

Hadley jack is a name someone I know used!
