So my last little girl was born at 6lb3. I had a small bump and not much fluid and had several growth scans as she always measured small.

Just been for 28 week midwife app and I am measuring a week ahead and have put on 22lb! Geeze Louise!!! I don't really understand how the get the meausurement and how everyone is roughly the same when we all start off different weights and shapes ~ can anyone explain it?

I was a size 10 when I became pregnant and have only myself to blame for weight gain as have been eating everything on sight.... From now on I shall be healthy and avoid the cake. Wish me luck! X

I've wondered the same about the measurement. I know it's from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus, so I guess it's how much the baby should have stretched it out?? No idea... I weighed myself yesterday and at 31 weeks I've gained 23lb... 5lb in 2 weeks!!! I could've cried but instead I drowned my sorrows in a tub of pick n mix.
I figure that as long as you get a balanced diet and haven't totally ballooned, it's only natural! You can't really diet when heavily pregnant so just make sure you are eating the right stuff, along with the wrong! And I'll deal with the consequences post birth! Luckily babies are due in smer so lots of nice walks should help budge the bulge x

Thanks for your reply! Yes I guess that measurement makes sense ~ would just be so surprised if I have a big baby! You are 4 weeks ahead of me and have only gained 1lb more! I haven't ballooned, but have one of those spread around bumps where my hips and bum are a lot bigger than they were ~ I did the same with my little girl and it easily dropped off again after, so not sure why it has stressed me a bit this morning?! I have been eating lots of fruit and healthy meals throughout, it's just then I will have cake/choc bar etc which I never had before. That is what I need to cut out... And I will cut out!! Ugh.... If only it didn't taste so damn good!! X

It is hard!! Why don't you try healthier alternatives like violate covered fruit or flapjack? Still get the junk craving sorted but getting some goodness too? Justifies eating it xx

I'm almost 32 weeks and so far I have put on 22lb. I'm small framed, was a size 8 pre pregnancy and have really struggled with weight gain throughout. I can't even look at photos of myself now or I cry. Funnily though it's not my bump that brings the tears (I love my bump and feel that it's natural to have a bump) it's actually my puffed face and arms. I have now taken the attitude that I have only 8 weeks left so stuff it, I'm gonna stop worrying and try to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy.

In terms of measurements, my last midwife appointment last week put baby at 4lbs. They are predicting an 8lb baby for me. I'm 5ft 2in so this alone scares me lol

Thanks ml, that sounds like a good plan! Sorry you feel so sad about it bubbles, but glad to hear you are beginning to accept it. I found last time breastfeeding really helped get back to where I wanted to be.i am exactly the same as you with loving the bump, feels so natural, it's just the other bits I could do without! Think maybe I had just prepared for small measurements after last time and then got a shock when it was the opposite. X

I was measuring just over a week ahead at my 24wk appointment - I've got my 28wk appointment tomorrow so will be interesting to see. I've not been weighed since my 12wk scan though. How do they predict weight of baby? Do they use the fundal measurement?

Xxx

Oh summer let Us know how you get on with measurrments tomorrow. Midwife didn't weigh me today, I just weighed myself in the waiting room. Xx

Yeah my midwife doesn't weigh me, I do it out of curiosity. I'll also be interested to weigh myself post birth to see just how much is baby and fluid etc, and how much is me eating! X

38 weeks Monday and I've gained around 3 stone however my baby was estimated around 7-8lbs so I'm not entirely disheartened x

I am 30 weeks and I have gained 15lbs from 12 weeks but I was overweight for my height before I got pregnant. And baby's estimated weight yesterday was 4lb 2ozs xx

Mary poppins I had a 9lbs baby with my first and I always measured spot on for my dates with him. I'm also very short, so never understood why or how! With my second I was constantly measuring ahead by about three weeks. He was born at 38 weeks and was over 8 and a half pounds. I reckon if I'd had him at 41 weeks when I had my first he would have been 10lbs.

One thing that I was told was that my bump could have been bigger second time around because my stomach muscles and uterus were stretched out from my first pregnancy.

Bubbles, I was really puffy with both pregnancies and put on a lot of weight with each one. But it was because of swelling and water retention, asks well as my huge babies obviously! With my first I put on three and a half stone, but lost two and a half of that within weeks of having him. Second time I'm only about half a stone heavier than my pre pregnancy weight and he's six weeks old. I was about 4 stone heavier just before I had him!!

Thanks little monkey, def gives me hope that this is just temporary and I may feel normal again some time in the future lol x

Thanks everyone, guess I just need to be mindful of not putting on too much more, whilst still staying healthy for me and baby. After having such a tiny one will be a real shock if this is a big baby! X

Those bothered about puffy faces etc...

Please remember, the swelling in face and limbs is water retention, and completely normal, and it goes soon after birth.

Putting on weight does not equal getting fat.

Piling on the pounds now does not mean you can't lose it again after birth.

Embrace the opportunity to not give a damn :) xx

I'm not saying this to annoy anyone but because I am a little bit worried. I'm 32+4 and when I weighed myself at around 28 weeks I'd put on a stone exactly, I weighed myself 3 weeks later and I'd only put on another 1lb so 15lb in total at 31 weeks! Should I be worried that I'm not putting enough weight on? 1lb in 3 weeks doesn't seem a lot at this stage?? I've had a couple of growth scans and at 31 weeks the baby was measuring just above average with an estimated weight of 4lb 1oz. I was measured by the midwife yesterday and was measuring 31cm at 32+3 - I've measured behind, ahead, correct and now behind again on these measurements so I don't put much stock in these! The midwife said 31cm at 32+3 puts me above average on the chart which I didn't really understand.

Bubbles22 this baby is on track to be 8lb at 40 weeks and I'm only 5ft 2 and usually a size 8/10 so I understand your fears!! xx

I'm now 36 wks. At all my appt I've been measuring 3wks ahead,so at my last appt (34wks) I was measuring 37cm,but as long as your measurements are in line with each other then that's all that matters. Also just because you may be measuring big doesn't mean baby is big. In the same way. Just because you're measuring small doesn't mean baby is small. It will be interesting to see how much I've grown when I go to the midwife on Monday. X

Im only 9.5 stone at the moment, 5ft 2 and im having growth scans. Although baby is actually above average, but my fundal height is measuring 3 weeks behind so have to have the extra scans even though baby is fine. She's measuring about 2.2lb already so I've put on a stone so far. Seems very subjective people do comment on my lack of a proper bump when i say how far i am
. Xx

Pregnancy increases weight for a woman but proper caring during pregnancy and proper diet can give you a healthy baby so gaining weight is not a big issue of getting stressed one advice that i would like to add is the concern for stretch marks for which i used technique anti cellulite from cellublue and really my stretch marks reduced.
