We had rice mixed with carrot for the first time today. She pulled a face then ate the lot. I made far too much but she polished it off. First time i used the hand blender this morning! I'm covered in carrot! Lol

Hey girlies can i join too??
Been feeding Ted rice for 2 weeks now, was going to exclusively feed him rice until 6 months but i'm figuring that must be boring, so i bought some of the banana and apple cereal - but he didn't like it. Now i'm having to sneak other things in with the rice! :D
God knows why he likes it so much...its :puke: !
I tend to feed him 8oz @ 8am, 8oz + rice @12pm, 8oz + rice @4pm then bedtime bottle at 8pm, i'm wondering whether this is enough?
Left Matt in charge last night as i went out, and got back today, he'd fed him milk at 6.30am, milk/rice at 10am, milk/rice at 2pm....so we're going to try a bit of banana at tea tonight in one of those mesh feeders :cheer:

hello! can i join?

On HV advice, we're weaning Iz... She had baby rice for about 4 or 5 days, but tbh that didnt go down too well, so we're now onto rusk desolved in her milk. She likes that MUCH better. She's getting the hang of opening her mouth for the spoon, but doesnt seem to know that she has to shut her mouth when the spoons taken away so most of it ends up down her.

What time of the day do you all give your LO';s their 'dinner'? We were giving her some rusk at 6, but then she wouldnt take her bottle, so gonna move it back to about 5? what do you think?

We gave her some fruit puree the other day which im not sure she was that keen on..........

woohoo the weaning is going well :D

Loving this thread. James is about to try carrots for tea :D

Carrots did not go down well today :(

Looks like he prefers the baby rice, so gonna stick with that for the next couple of days

aww bless him it is a completly different taste could you try mixing a bit of carrot in with his rice just a small amount then increase it over time :) it maybe the texture aswell try to make it quite runny like the rice that may help aswell
xx

Fi, i'm the same!
Ted blimmin loves baby rice and nothing else, tried him with banana then apple in his munchkin mesh feeder and he didn't like it, mushed banana...nope

Yeah think I'm gonna have to start sneaking bits into the rice too. He was really excited when he seen his bowl but was then inconsolable when he tasted the carrot

can i join in! Ive just started experimenting with food for Anjali. Because she's feeding like, every hour (!!) im testing the water. So far she hasnt taken to anything mashed/runny - i tried pureed apple/banana which got a disgusted look, baby rice she just sticks her tongue out, but she will quite happily gnaw on a rusk , she ate about a third of a rusk earlier. (and then started screaming lol)

im not sure whether to keep trying with the baby food or stick to hard things she can get her gums into..

Banana in the baby rice gets an initial grimace and then a huge thumbs up! Banana on its own also a success although I didn't much like the black specks in the poo :rotfl:

Like Tilly I think this thread is ace!

ok ladies, heres a question for you....are you starting to offer a drink of water now that your LO's are gonna be having more 'proper' food? Im worried about Iz's tum as she gets constipated quite easily as it is, and now she's being weaned im thinking maybe i should offer her a little water too? And if i do, when do you start with sippy cups? Can she just have it out of the bottle for now?

I swear i wasnt this worried about everything when i weaned beth, i dont know how i managed it now, lol. Im stressing myself out!!

P.S she had berry yoghurt baby food today, thought it was grim!! looked like she was sucking on a lemon, so i mixed a little bit with some milk and baby rice which she liked much more. Im convinced i heard her say 'yum' at one point :rotfl: She makes ever such funny noises when she's eating :D

I know what you mean about the constipation and I have only been giving Charlie his milk as his drink but have gonna give him water tomorrow as he had a bit of a struggle doing a poo today. For now I'm just gonna give him it in his bottle as I haven't bought a sippy cup yet, but not sure how old they are supposed to be when you can try them.

I also am stressing myself out beyond belief over weaning Charlie and you wouldn't think I had done it all before  With Jamie it all seemed so easy.

I know what you mean....i cant believe i managed to wean Beth, the way im carrying on. Its like i havent got a CLUE what im doing, and im convinced im getting everything wrong. Inm constantly asking OH if im doing the rights things and he just keeps telling me to calm down, lol

Iz struggled a bit having a poo too, so i offered her a little bit of cooled boiled water in her bottle after her little bit of food and she looked at me like "wtf is this??" :rotfl:

I havent got a clue about sippy cups  Im thinking maybe she's a bit too young for them at the mo, but just wanted to compare with everyone else.....I find it less stressful when i can chat to you lot about things :D

Angel had a right screaming fit tonight. Wouldn't feed or sleep. Made her some rusk (naughty i know) but she quietened right down and scoffed the lot! Still refuses bottles though, so can't give her water!

Sazzy - :rotfl: about the water. Charlie's not too bad with water, so hopefully he will have some so he can have a proper poo.

Lisa - Charlie was like that yesterday, wouldn't take his food or his bottle :wall:

Well today I just went back to plain, boring baby rice and he took the lot and his bottle, so I'm definitely sticking with that for a bit and then just start adding bits of other stuff to it until he gets used to the tastes.

The weaning lady at my baby clinic said that baby rice is fine until they are 6 months anyway, she told me just to give LO that and maybe try her with some banana pieces to play with/mush in her hands for a couple of weeks until she hits the 6 month mark. She was very chilled and just said dont worry let baby lead the way - I am soooo pleased I have found a HV who seems to fit with our way of thinking! :cheer:

Eva ate quite a lot of her rice today and I have made some mango mush for the freezer to add to yoghurt, porridge etc in a few weeks time. Am feeling very domestic now....

thomas has had a sippy cup since he was 2 months just give it to them to play with they will get used to it also help them drink out of it and dont get one thats "no spill" as it maybe to hard to get anything out and then it may put them off it
xx

I don't think it will be long before Logan needs solids, he's on 9oz of hungry baby milk every 2 or 3 hours during the day  though he does go between around 6 hours at night. He's 18 weeks old now.

I'm not looking forward to weaning, I remember steaming fruit and veg for James and freezing it in ice cube trays, only to have him spit it all out  I also get freaked out about choking, lumps are scary!
