I had a dental check-up a month ago, and the dentist said that everything was OK. However, about a week or so ago, I noticed that when I bite into food using the right side of my mouth, one or more teeth feels weak, making me think my teeth are going to fall out. But when I touch those teeth with my fingers, they feel like they are firmly in place and don't wobble. I know that pregnancy can cause gums to bleed more, was just wondering whether the pregnancy is causing these sensations. Have anyone else experienced the same thing?

Yep! My front tooth and crown are loose at the moment - drives me mad when I try to bite anything :?

Nice bleeding gums too - corsodyl is my best mate at the mo :rotfl:

i get this too, not just in pregnancy. i think im going mad when it happens because when i 'wiggle' my tooth with my finger it is solid. the dentist never says anything either so i guess it just feels a bit looser sometimes

i havent felt that, but if ur check-up went ok i'm sure its nothing to worry about. x

My teeth hadn't recovered since my first post, so went to the dentist this morning to get it checked out. He says that pregnancy has caused my tooth to shift position slightly but it should all get back to normal after I've given birth. Phew! Thought my tooth was falling out.

Is so weird the amount of ways being pregnant effects our bodies isn't it?

I have had real problems with my eye sight, which I have been told is pregnancy related too!

I was wondering whether eyesight would be affected. I'm due to get some new contact lenses soon, and I normally buy a year's supply at a time, but was worried that my prescription may not be as accurate if I get a sight test done during pregnancy.

I had to get my prescription updated when I had an eye test early in pregnancy. I think it helped though as I was getting headaches particularly on that side.

I find I can't wear my contact lenses so much these days. I think my eyes are drier or something coz the lenses make them itch.

I developed a noticeable gap between my front teeth during pregnancy and suffered with the bleeding gums quite badly. They seem OK now though.

My front teeth were looser during pregnancy, dentist assured me it would right itself once baby was born, and he was right...he also said pregnant women are more prone to tooth decay too...I had 3 fillings today :( I think it was more to do with the amount of fizzy orange pop I craved during my pregnancy, I drank gallons of it!!

Look after the toothy pegs you preggy gals xxx

Thanksfully no teeth problems as yet *touches wood*
I have a 6 month check up in a fortnight though...so we shall see what she makes of things then. Last time I saw her I was about 7/8 weeks pregnant so it will be nice this time to go in with my bump!! :-)

I was really miffed actually. I went to the opticians a few weeks ago as I had really dry eyes, so wanted to get them checked out. The optician insisted on giving me an eye test which I actually wasn't due for. My prescription had changed quite dramatically. If I had my husband with me I would have actually gone ahead and chosen new glasses (£200+ usually!)... Luckily he wasn't. So I left it, went home and happened to read in one of my books about how it is advised NOT to have your eyes tested when you are pregnant.

I then went on Specsavers website and found this:
http://www.specsavers.co.uk/cgi-bin/str ... nancy.html

So very p*ssed off I had a £19 eye test for no reason, I would complain, but I haven't got the energy to be honest!

(sorry for hijacking Daisy!)

That's very useful info topbird!
I've got about 3 months of contacts left, and I'm due in under 3 months time, so hopefully, the timing for the sight test will work out well!
Thanks!

think breatsfeeding can have the same effect on your eyes too! I would just refuse an eye test and buy another 3 months of your normal prescription if you can!

Oh dear! Not good news! Have to have a word with my optician and see what my options are. I need contact lenses, cannot leave the house in glasses!!! Hehe!

Ive not had a problem with my teeth being loose, but its like texas chainsaw massacre when i brush them!
Its that bad ive limited them to one brush a day as my gums cant take it.And there isnt a dentist taking on for miles around here so i cant even see a dentist.

I read that gum disease may affect the baby, apparently it can cause pre-term and/or low weight babies. Are you using a softer toothbrush? And if not already doing so, maybe using a mouthwash can help keep bacteria at bay.

dental treatment is free when you are pregnant, I think it is even regardless of whether they are an NHS dentist or not. Did you tell them you were pregnant when you tried to register? It is important to get your teeth checked out, especially if you are having trouble?

Flossing before brushing your teeth can really help with sensitivity. I had this problem before I was pregnant and after a week of twice daily flossing I noticed they bled a lot less.
