Hi Ladies.... Might seem like a strange question, but I've only just come across it. One of the pregnancy leaflets / magazines that I've got says I have to wash all the new clothes and bedding before first use with a 'baby friendly detergent'.

What's a baby friendly detergent then? And what is particularly unfriendly about the others? I can't find any other reference to needing a special washing powder for the baby clothes.... I usually use Bold 2-in-1 liquid, will that not do?

Hope someone can help, as now I'm really worried that I'm going to do horrible things to my little one out of sheer ignorance...

hi,

i asked my M/W and she just said to use non bio, (they normally have a baby on them or sensitive) & same with fabric conditioner if you can get it, cos its softer and less harsh on babies skin

iv now got asda non bio washing powder & comfort sensitive conditioner, i normally have surf which i like cos of the smell.... but the non bio & comfort isnt too bad, lol

hope this helps

I've been using fairy washing powder and comfort pure fabric softener. But I think as long as it's non bio it should be ok.

i use bold and always will didnt change last time with dd and wont with this one unless it reacts to it i think too much fuss is made with stuff like this but each to there own lol

I will be carrying on using my regular washing gel and softener unless baby gets a rash then I'll change it.

Same here, we both have allergies so i'm sticking with our usual brands

I've brought a small box of fairy non bio but will prob stick to what I normally use as it smells lush!!

I have used non bio powder and white softner liquid for 11.5 years now, and will carry on. All my kids have had sllight ecxema and my daughter, had really bad skin for 2 years as soon as she started eating solids, and was creamed up and wrapped top to toe in tubey grip bandages , and never wore a skirt or short sleves due to that, (she still wont really so shame!) it's not the fault of the powder, but these powders don't aggravate her then or now

I always used Fairy non bio with my DD and when I went to sainsbury's non bio she came out in eczema. I now use either fairy or persil non bio and she's fine, I'll be washing all of my DS clothing in that too x
