Hello V

You DONT get a baggage allowance on Easyjet or Ryanair! :shakehead: This is cheeky because you have to pay some money for the baby to sit on your lap! You get your standard 20kg and no more. But this may not be the same on other airlines.

As for the car seat I am taking mine and carrying F in it until I get on the plane then it gets taken off you as you climb the steps and you get it back when the plane lands.

I am flying this weekend - and again in Nov - my main concern is travel cot! I would like my own travel cot but it may not be possible unless I pay the extra baggage

As far as I am aware your buggy and carseat are not counted towards you luggage allowance.

No holiday tips to offer....other than get yourself to Boots, they have a mega summer clothes sale, I got some stuff for Libby for next summer (nothing like being prepared  ) for £1 each!!!!

aHi

Ryanair only allow 15kg luggage and 10kg hand luggage

Thanks girls - any more tips appreciated!

Becks - did you take a car seat with you on the plane and did it count towards your baggage allowance?

When I first took Beth & Tom abroad, I hired a buggy in resort,so much easier & not very expensive.

Remember that nappies & wipes are easily obtainable in a different country, with all 3 of them I have always taken just enough nappies for the journey & 1st day & headed off to the local supermarket when I get there :D

As for clothes, take enough but remember to take some travel wash, less to carry & I would also buy my jarred baby food when I got there.

Hope this helps, just my advice from a seasoned mummy of 3 foreign traveller :D

Ooh lucky you told me that about Ryanair!! Or I would have been paying through the nose!

We have booked flights to Geneva on British Airways and I was reallly impressed to discover that Ellie gets the full 23Kg baggage allowance, and in addition we can put the car seat and the buggy in the hold. If you have a choice I would recommend BA because of this. We are trying to decide if we take the carseat or not. The problem is just carrying all the stuff around the airport.

Hi Valentine,

I think it depends who you fly with. We flew to Turkey in June with BA & we got a 23kg baggage allowance for Katy, hand baggage allowance & we took the stroller & car seat at no extra cost!! It was fab as I though she wouldn't get an allowance at all!!

no great advice but have a great time

D has some baby banz off ebay they have straps on help keep them in place

V, I'll report back in February on what you really need and what we took needed or didn't use etc!! You can take EITHER a pram or car seat onto the plane with you - it's not counted in your luggage allownace, if you show up with both you'll have to check one of them in. Infants (under 2) don't have their own baggage allownace since they go for free paying only around £30 or so in departure/arrival taxes so it's just 15kg per adult so 30kg between you and OH. You can pay for LO to have a luggage allownace but not sure about the costs of that. Full "how we found it" report in Feb xx

Thanks everyone - it's a bit difficult as the flights are being booked (and paid for!) by someone else - but I'll pass on all the info you have given us re. airlines and baggage allowances and hopefully they will book us on a sympathetic airline!

Thanks again! Any other info or advice more than welcome.

HI Valentine.

When we went to SA we had brody in his own carseat on the place cos we paid for a full ticket for him.

n a shorter flight we checked in the carseat with the suitcases (wrapped in polythene to protect it) then still had the pushchair with us until we boarded.

I'd ring you airline and ask if you can check one in.
