Hi everyone

I had my 2nd vaginal scan yesterday afternoon. My cervix has shortened from 14mm now to 9mm and there is more funnelling. Im a little worried, ive got to take things very easy and I am not allowed to have sex at all. Thing is my sex drive is really high at the mo so I can see Im gonna get a little frustrated. The Special Baby Unit has been made aware of my situation. I am due to start having internal progesterone from next Thursday. If my cervix reaches 5mm I will be put on steriods. Im trying not to let it worry me too much.

Hi Eveadel

I'm so sorry that you are going through this, the best you can do is try and relax easier said then done.

your at the 24 week mark now and with how much medical care has improved with dealing with premeture babies the survival rate is very good and improves even more greatly after 28 weeks, although I know that this is not ideal or what you would want.

I'm sure all your carers will do everything they can to help you deliver your little one safely, the good thing is that they are aware of your situation and can give you the best treatment needed.

I hope everything goes more smoothly for you from now on, and that I have helped ease your mind alittle and not made you feel worse

best wishes

i hope it all work out ok for u
my sis was born at 28 weeks and is now a happy health y very annoying 16 year old, so being prem doesnt always mean problems

Eveadel i know exactly what you're going through hun i went through the same i was scanned every 2 weeks from 20 weeks until 28weeks, they didn't think i would get to 24 weeks. I started having contractions at 33 weeks so i was given steroids for the babys lungs and tablets to stop the contractions i spent a week in hospital and was then released then Abi was born a week later at 35 weeks.

All i can suggest is what i did and that was basically nothing, i didn't go anywhere or do anything my OH did all the cooking and cleaning, it did my head in but just had to think of bubs and think it's not forever, also everyday bubs is inside you he/she grows stronger and they told me that everyday really does make a difference. A friend had the same problem and carried on as normal her baby was born at 28 weeks.

Have you been allowed to go to SCBU, if you haven't ask as this will prepare you if bubs should make an early appearence, it's a lot harder than people realise. It was one of the hardest things i've had to deal with.

If you want to chat more about prem birth and prem babies PM me.

Thinking of you and here's to hoping bubs is staying put for as long as possible :)

Thanks everyone.

You really are worth your weight in gold especially when I feel a little anxious, I am trying to chill out and relax but it is so bloody hard. I am and always have been a very active person so it is abit of a shell shock. When I go for my next internal scan on Thursday I will ask about arraning to see SCBU.

Heres hoping my little angel will stay with mummy for longer.

yeah i was a very active person too and it did my head in but it's worth it in the end :) let us know how it goes at your next scan.

I know how nervous you feel hun, my cervix whas shortening and funneling from about the same gestation as you. I got to 34 weeks and it was my waters breaking which kicked it all off in the end!

I know it's easy for me to say, but do try and rest as much as you can. For the last couple of months of my pregnancy I didn't walk anywhere hardly, didn't drive, and mainly stayed in my house! It's damn frustrating when you're an active person, but it is definately for the best. Every day counts towards a better future for baby if it came now, and the mosre rest you get the less chances of you aggrevating your cervix.

As for the no-sex thing, frustratin yes! But stick with it, and help eachother in other ways

Take care hunnie and put your feet up xxxx

Hi girls

Thank you for your words/advice.

Sami, I may have asked you this before but what was your cervix measurements?

Eveadel if it's any help mine was anywhere between 0.4cm and 1.9cm it kept changing all the time for some reason i also had funneling from 24 weeks, do they measure you then make you go for 15 minute walk then measure you again? this is what i had to do

Oh Manda, it was quite a difference then. I bet you are so pleased that she arrrived all healthy, etc in the end, what a relief. Will you have anymore bubbies?

No I have not been measured then told to go for a 15 min walk.

When I go tomorrow I will start progesterone, I will be scan weekly and will have my uterus activity monitored for one hour each time?

See my thread went to hospital today

Yeah despite all i went through i still want another one although it scares the crap out of me, hopefully they will put a stitch in early next time as they know there is a problem. I had a real rough pregnancy had bleeding between 4 and 8 weeks and then a real heavy bleed at 11 1/2 weeks and they thought i'd miscarried we still don't know for sure what it was but they said it might have been twins and one didn't make it :( also was really ill after the birth as i retained the placenta and ended up in theatre had to have blood transfusion too. :?

Oh blimey Manda, you really did have the run of the mill with your pregnancy.

Im thinking this might be the one and only. Im now 32 and feel like Im getting on abit!!

When i first had Abi i said no more cos i was so ill after but within about 4 days i decided i wanted another one, bet you change you mind when little one arrives :)

Went back today, cervix is still at 9mm. Im so relieved as I have really tried to take it easy for the last week - been bloody hard. Starting on my progesterone tonight.

Sorry for the delayed reply hun!

My cervix measured 1-2cm long and 1cm dilated at 27 weeks, then 9mm long by 30 weeks, and at 33weeks I was 1-2cm dilated and was told I was in slow labour - was a week from then when I had Damien.

So glad your cervix has stayed the same hunnie! It is scary but stay positive and rest lots!! xx
