Never ending cervix saga...

I had my first appointment since my surgery with the consultant at the specialist fetal unit at St Thomas' who placed my cervical stitch 3 weeks ago today.

He measured my cervix to check the length, but he said for some reason my cervix is really difficult to gauge, (something to do with the surgeries i had on it previously making the echo's harder to read??? Duh?) but he said he thought my cervical length was over 3cm, which is good. He also said not to really trust the other scans i've had at my usual hospital as my cervix is so unusual.

He's said the next 3 weeks are really important, and that i should rest where ever possible to give my cervix the best chance of staying long. In 3 weeks i'll see him again and he's do a Fetal Fibroncetin test, which is a vaginal swab which can pretty accurately predict if you're going to go into preterm labour.

I know it; all good that i'm being so well looked after, but i now feel so scared by the 3 weeks ahead. I;m planning pretty strict bed rest (well, sofa rest) and i know 3 weeks is not that long, but psychologically i just feel so scared i'll not get through it. God i wish i could fast forward time!

He finished the appointment saying he thinks it will all be fine - but i just hat this limbo now and worry i'll just start feeling depressed and more frightened over the coming weeks. There are only so many films a girl can watch!!!

Sorry - just needed to get it off my chest. Just feeling kind of frightened, even though i didn;t even get any real bad news today

Oh poor you, it must be scary to have so many unknowns. It does sound like your doc really knows his stuff and you are being treated well.

Try to enjoy the next few weeks, I know I would kill for 3 weeks rest! Lots of dvds, and sitting on the internet for you. Why don't ya do your Christmas shopping online! That'll kill a few days! Good luck hun and keep us posted

You'll get through the next 3 weeks fine hun, it'll have passed before you know it

Ah bless, you poor thing, take care of yourself, 3 weeks will pass quickly xxx

Aww poor you, so stressful, keep your feet up and fingers crossed for some good news in 3 weeks! x

It all sounds good hun! Could you start a new project like learning to knit or crochet? I taught myself when I was pregnant with Elliott, it's easy with the many cool books around now (the Stitch and Bitch series are great!) and you can use You Tube for little films to help when you get stuck. There are hundreds of free patterns online too and places like Craftster.com where you can get ideas and help too. I made a lovely star shaped cot blanket for Elliott before he was born plus lots of cute toys that were safe for babies as there were all crocheted or knitted. You can get balls of bright acrylic wool from Wilkinsons or pound shops for £1 a go and they wash easily on 40 degrees so are perfect for babies and toddlers and the needles etc you can get very very cheap in charity shops if you can get someone to go for you or actually you can get all your wool and needles on ebay very cheaply.

Sorry- got carried away craft-pushing! I just find it SO therapeutic and you can do it in front of the TV! I help run a stitch and bitch craft group in a local pub and it's full of trendy 20 somethings so it's apparently cool too!

Also have you heard of Sofa Cinema http://www.sofacinema.co.uk/visitor/home.html or things like it? Basically you pay so much a month and get DVDs posted to you, we paid £10 a month and got 6 a month, 2 at one time but there's no limit on how long you keep them for if you see what I mean? They had every film we'd ever want to see and lot of TV series too (our local video place is rubbish) and it was easy as the postage was all paid so your OH could just pop them back in the post for you. Actually they have a 30 day free trial so you could try it and cancel after your 3 weeks- they were very good when we had to deal with them so it's very possible to do that. We stopped it recently as we had lots of video games to play so weren't using up the 6 a month but we're planning to sign up again when this baby arrives as we'll be staying in for a good while. Just another suggestion! Daytime TV would make my head explode!

Oh hun if I lived closer I would pop over for a coffee and cheer you up

I hope the next 3 weeks fly by.......

Keep positive.... :D

Thanks for all your messages. Really helps cheer me up!

And Rosebay - we're the same person i think!

I've already knitted one massive scarf (i've already been on modified bed rest for a few weeks and was addicted to www.cyberseams.com) AND i've joined Lovefilm.com, and so am ordering my quota of crap films right now!

I've also decided to be quite honest with my friends and family and ask them to try to pop in when they can as i'd really appreciate a bit of company, even if it's just for a cup of tea. I've been pretty quiet about how i've felt but now i think i need to lean on people a bit more for the next few weeks to keep me sane. Trouble is London is so big, friends end up living hours away, even though they're only actually a few miles away!

I've just had sausage mash and gravy for tea. Much happier x

Kate glad to hear things are looking positive and hope you don't get too bored over the next 3 weeks. I do alot of crafts too cross stitching, card making and scrapbooking and they can all be done on the sofa. I hope it flies by and you get good news again on your next doc visit

Hooray! And I felt all guilty afterwards that I'd gone on a crafty rant! I hadn't seen that site before, that's cool. A friend at work knits lots of things from www.knitty.com but my knitting tends to be toddler jumpers from bought patterns or knitted cakes from Jean Greenhowe for my Xmas craft stall. I'm in the middle of knitting 10 little tins of Heinz Beans complete with three little beans with smiley faces inside as the kids love those.

So glad you're feeling better hun
