Seen the doctor and he was great. He thinks that the bacteria in her gut has been wrecked by the massive antibiotic shot I had in theatre when I was having my repair job done. He says he sees it a lot and he is a very experienced doctor who also teaches medical students. He said its either that or she's just being a little monkey!!
I was also shocked because he advised me to stop breastfeeding and keep her on one type of food rather than mixing it up. He said as she was happy on the lactose free milk to continue with that and to call him in a week to see how things are going. He said that the best bit of breastfeeding is the colostrum anyway and not to feel like a failure not doing it. I think because of my mental state and the fact I have to go back to work in three weeks he thinks it's best for my mental health too! I'm a bit gutted about it but I have to be realistic.
I'm pleased to report that Mia is thriving and has gained 6oz since her 5 day old check. She's now 14 days old so he said that indicates there's nothing seriously wrong with her. He also advised that if we've done everything for her and she still screams to walk away for a little while as babies can be manipulative things to get your constant attention. And we do just cuddle her and try to soothe her every time she cries.
I hope no one thinks any less of me for stopping breastfeeding. Believe me it's what I wanted to do but for the sake of my relationship with my baby I think it's for the best. X
