Two empty gestation sacs (please read and comment, need reassurance)

Hi everybody.

I'm new to this forum and just wanted to put my experience out there.

My Lmp was 27th nov 2013 (I previously misscarried on the 2nd nov 2013 .
I had a positive pregnancy test with first response early on 20/12/2013. Didn't get my positive pregnant with clear blue digital until 24th dec 2013.

I had an internal scan on 7th jan 2014 due to last misscarriage and they saw two empty gestation sacs nothing else! And another what looked like a sac on the other side of my uterus but they said this was probably just fluid or a little bleed as it wasn't a gestation sac.

If I was going from my lmp I would have been 5 weeks 6 days and I presumed at least an egg yolk would have shown up. Especially with me having a positive pregnancy test 2 weeks and 4 days before the scan.

Has anybody had this experience good or bad? I have two children already 2 boys, almost 4 and 10 months.

Please share your experiences or thoughts.

Hi, I cant really share experiences... I had a misscarriage, and at the scan there was absolutely nothing in there, not even a sac.
They said early on that can be quite normal, as sometimes things really dont show up for several weeks.
There are plenty of threads on this forum with women experiencing this, only to go back a few weeks later and see a little baby developing inside the sac. You just cant tell this early on, our bodies behave in strange ways!
Fingers crossed it was too early! Have you been given a follow up scan date? Have they asked for you to come in for bloods to monitor HCG?

I had my bloods done the day before my scan so the 6/01/14 and they were at just over 3000 so they expected to see something on the scan I imagine they mean at least the yolk sac. However his wasn't seen but then I was thinking maybe my levels will be higher if there are two babies trying to grow in there?

I did ask about a repeat hgc blood but they said this wouldn't be needed as I am due to have a follow up scan this Tuesday coming do 1 week since last scan! The only thing that is worrying me is that I had a positive hpt over 2 weeks ago so I assumed more than an empty sac would show. Then again I was thinking maybe if there are two in there they make take longer to develop. Wishful thinking maybe x

I wouldnt give up hope, it'll be along old wait till the next scan, so try and pencil in lots of things to fill up the next 7 days, plus some pampering for yourself!
I dont think that its wishful thinking, I think it makes sense that HCG would be high if there were twins, especially seeing as there as two sacs. and at an early date they might not show up, because there are 2 growing not one, so they might be smaller! I really have seen women go through the horrible wait until the next scan thinking they'd misscarried, but then the next scan showed normal development!
I think with my miscarriage it was with twins, because my pregnancy symptoms were SO strong, compared with this pregnancy, I was extremely nauseous, dizzy, tired, lots of twinges and stretches early on. And then my miscarriage bleed came in two lots, over two months, so i think the first was one, and then the second half was the other.
Your hcg is high, so dont give up hope yet!
Shame they dint offer you bloods or you'd know 48 hours later whether they were going up. Let us know how you get on. xxx

Hi hun I've just had the same thing. Had a can 2 days ago at 6+1 and I just had an empty 18mm sac. Did they say how big they was? I was told at 13mm the yolk should show up. My repeat scan is Friday next week but have been told it's highly unlikely it will be good news for me xxx

Thank you ClimbingRose it does help to be able to talk to people going or have been threw the same thing. It seems like you had a hard time with your misscarriage and all the uncertainty to! I would have loved to have had my hgc repeated but unfortunately they wouldn't. It does seen like forever until my next scan!

Littlemisshopeful I'm sorry you are going through the same thing! They did mention the size of both of the sacs on the paperwork I remember one was smaller than the other and one was around the 13mm mark just a little more. Let's hope they doctor is wrong! I have read on a different forum that somebody went in at 6 weeks and 4 days and empty sac then 7 weeks 1 day there was a little bean and beating heart! There is still hope I suppose but it is just such a worrying time. I have a strong feeling that when I go back if all is week I think only one would have stuck rather than twins. When is you next scan scheduled for? Xxx

Sorry just seen your scan is Friday next week it seems so long away dosnt it at least then you will be further along and I have also been told by the doctor that the measurement of the sac is not 100% early on as it is soo small it is easily miscalculated so let's hope that is the case. She told me not to worry too much of the size of the sac just yet. When did you receive your first positive test? Xxx

i was on 48 hour bloods for a week before they reached 2000 i went for scan just sac was heartbroken as i knew i was 6 weeks goin of periods went back a week later and there was baby heartbeating and everything turns out i was only 4-5 weeks at first scan althou id known i was pregnant 2 weeks before scan i got my bfp at 3 weeks gone ..try and stay positive xxx

17th such a long wait but the sac has to measure 25mm before they will diagnose and it grows 1mm a day.
Your sacs are still small so plenty of time for babies to grow. Fx for you xxx

I got my bfp at 9dpo on December 18th so I know I can't be any earlier as I wouldn't have tested positive. I'm having 48 hour bloods done got my second tomorrow and get the results Tuesday morning when I see the doc xxx

You tested positive 2 days before me then. I was also told I could be earlier if the sac is empty but I find that hard to believe due to me getting my positive that long ago! I wish I was having my bloods tested still it gives you that little more hope! Let me know what your blood results say and I'll keep everything crossed xx

They did say it's pointless doing them as my levels will still raise with an empty sac. They just did them as I suffer from anxiety and feel like I'm doing nothing. Only way the bloods will tell us anything is if they fall xxx

Thank you! And I'm hoping this is the case. Twins is such a special accurace. There hasn't been any in my family for over 22 years or my partners. I'm just hoping everything is well xxx

I got my BFP at 9dpo...had a private scan at 6+6 and they said all they could see was an empty sac. They didn't say it was MMC but said I was prob more like 5+6. This would mean I was only 2dpo when I got my BFP...IMPOSSIBLE!!! I was completely devastated. Went home and did a hpt which was obv still +ve. Over next few days I did more and they seemed to be getting fainter and fainter. Eventually I phoned epu in a state convinced I had lost baby. They told me to come in for a scan later that day. We went in and were shown a 7+6 baby with its little heart beating and I'm now 22 weeks. Don't immediately panic about dates, empty sacs, no HB etc until you're far on enough to know for sure. It doesn't necessarily mean bad news every time. Good luck xxx
