Hi Folks!!

I am new to this forum and have joined because I really really need to talk to someone about TTC and all it's worries etc.....

My husband and I have been TTC for nearly 2 years now and he doesn't want me to tell anyone. At the beginning, I didn't have a problem with it at all but 2 years on and I really need to get my concerns etc off my chest. My husband say's 'tell me!!' but bless him, only another woman in a similar situation to myself can truly understand what i am feeling.

I am an insulin dependant Diabetic and I was also hoping there would be someone on here who has experience of TTC and trying to control their Diabetes at the same time??
That doesn't mean I only want to talk to Diabetics tho!!!!!

I am consultant led at hosp and have been having day 21 tests. Sometimes i ovulate, sometimes i don't, although i have regular period (26-28 days without fail). The lack of ovulation seems to be linked to stress as i have been in a senior mgmnt role and under a lot of pressure!! I quit last month as it was affecting my health too much!!
My husband is due to provide a sample this week and I am going to have a scan soon. Following that scan, I may need a laparoscopy.

Getting pregnant is all I can think about and I am sure that is what is stopping it from happening, however, I have been having symptoms lately and I am really worried that it is all in my head as I want it so much!!!
Anyone else had this problem??

My last period was April 30th and I am now roughly 9-10 dpo.
At 5-6 dpo, I started to get slight twinges low down and on very tops of my
thighs.
My vaginal discharge is much 'wetter' than normal and I have become quite tired as well as suffering from slight nausea.
More recently, I have had a terrible headache and found 4 boils in the perianal area !! Eeek!
My blood sugars, which are normally betwwen 6mmol -8mmol are either low (less than 5mmol) or high (up to 18mmol).

Also, the symptoms I have listed, apart from the cramps and discharge, could all be linked to out of control sugar levels.

Aaaaarrrrgh!! I am so confused, I don't want to get my hopes up but just can't help it.
Has any one got any advice???

Thanks,

Emma xxxxx

Hi Emma

I can't say I am familiar with diabetes but didn't want to leave you in the lurch there with your post!

It sounds like you are going the right way about getting some answers - the tests you and your hubby are having will hopefully reveal any problems that you have (not that you necessarily have any!) and you can concentrate on TTC with no worries.

You're not alone either, everyone here is really nice and were all in very similar boats! My hubby and I have been trying for 15/16 months (ish), had one miscarriage a year ago and nothing since then, I have been recently diagnosed with PCOS and have a cyst in my uterus that needs removing before I can get pregnant, or so they think at least. So currently we have seen the fertility specialist once and are waiting for our next appointment to get the ball rolling so to speak. I'll hopefully be prescribed a drug to help me ovulate as like you it doesn't happen every cycle.

Its such a difficult time isn't it? I have good days and bad days, sometimes it doesn't bother me and other days I just want to scream.

Know what you mean about the symptom spotting too! You never know, maybe since you quit your job you are much less stressed and it has helped you get pregnant. There is only one way to find out.....I would wait till 14dpo (if you can!) and take your test. That way you won't need to worry about whether or not you have tested too early or anything.

Sorry I can't offer any more advice.

Hang in there! xxxxxxxx

Hey Sarah!!

Thanks so much for your reply!!
It helps to hear about other women in the same boat. It's so easy to get caught up in your own pity and think that your the only person who has ever been in this situation!!! haha.

It sounds as though your making great progress though Hun. It's all good. You and the Doc's obviously know what needs to be done and how. That can only be a positive thing!!

My hubby has taken a sample to the clinic today. We are so nervous about the results..... Eeeek!!

I am 14 dpo this Fri 27th so fingers crossed. I am sure its all in my head though!! I did an Ultra Advanced test this morning (picks up on 10HCG) and it was negative :-( :-( Not ruling it out completely at this stage though. There is still hope.

Speak to you soon

Hiya Emma :)

My hubby is a diabetic too although his blood sugar is very well controlled considering he eats what he wants when he wants.

Have you tried a Low GI diet as that could help stabalise your blood sugar :)

I think that your hubby sounds like he thinks the problem might be him with him not wanting you to talk about it. Our infertility is male factor and my hubby does get a bit sensitive about thinking people are talking about him...

I do think it is normal for ladies that are ttc to get symptoms without actually being pregnant, especially if we are trying something new or have made some changes to try and improve our chances.

We can but hope ;)

Thanks Louise,

Much appreciated!! My bloods sugars are in good control lately as I was given an insulin pump to help regulate 18 months ago, however I was out of control for years!

Can I ask - What are you doing about your fertility probs? Is there something your hubby can do to improve his count?? Interested to know, in case we need to start considering these options.....

Also think your right re getting fake symptoms. When getting pg is all you can think about, your body is going to respond to it, I suppose.

Oh well, we can have fun trying, eh??!

Thanks Hun x

Hi Emma...Sorry, I dont know anything about diabetes but thought I would share my story with you so you know you're not alone!
Me and my OH have been TTC since Jan 2010 with no joy yet but we cant go docs as my OH has such a low sex drive we would be laughed out of there! We manage it once a week, if that, so while technically we have been TTC since Jan 2010, in reality its probably only a few months. My OH has a Son who is nearly 11 and I had to have some tests last year (hysteroscopy and laparoscopy) for pelvic pain. The doc told me I had recently OV'd and he could see no other probs with me having babies. So I try to cling onto that, I try not to argue with my OH every time he says he's not in the mood, I'm trying to get fit and give up smoking...and most importantly I try not to stress...which is easier said than done!!
I really hope it happens for you soon hun...maybe this month is your month, you never know! Good luck! xxx

He isn't really doing anything because his lifestyle is actually pretty good.

His diabetes is well controlled, he doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, wears loose boxers, etc.

The only thing that i'm going to try and make him stop is drinking so much diet coke as he is on about 12 cans per day, which can't be good.

He is also taking a wellman suppliment with zinc in it.

Oh, and i've just ordered some Pycnogenol which comes highly recommended from Bead. I've read into it and it is an antioxidant that seems to increase bloodflow to microcapillaries which maybe will get more blood to the spermies? It is known to help infertility though :)

Jarjar81,
Thanks for telling me your story!! It sounds positive, in terms of having tests etc done in the past. Plus your oh has a child already!! It will happen soon, I am sureof it!!!

LouiseB,

Every Diabetic I know has an addiction to bloody Diet Coke!!! I am mad for the stuff too!! Although I have cut back to 1 can a day (or caffeine free stuff, if can get it) since TTC.
