Travel cot question

We are going on hols soon, we have a travel cot which LO will probably use. But all it came with was a hard flat thing which lies on bottom of the cot. iaaume we need a mattress too? Anyone got any recommendations for a mattress? Seems a bit silly to have a notion of a "travel cot" which folds to be a manageable bag but then you have to take a mattress too!

We are staying at a friend's house who doesn't have children.

BTW... when hotels etc offer a "travel cot" for LOs when you book, do they usually provide a mattress (and bedding?)

i just put a towel under the sheet for connor to lie on - he seems happy enough far easier to pack a towel than a mattress!

I just put a sheet on Finn's travel cot matress and he was fine. His cot matress is really firm anyway.
