Hi,

I have had the worst toothache I've ever experienced for the last two days. Been the dentist this morning and I have a root infection. However, they cant x-ray due to me being pregnant therefore can't identify the exact location of the infection to treat it (apparently I need root canal). The dentist gave me a course of amoxicillin and told me to take one paracetamol every 8 hours. This is not even taken the edge off the pain I'm in and I feel like getting a pair of plyers out and pulling my teeth out myself :(

Has anyone taken a higher dose of paracetamol during their pregnancy, or recieved any medical advice about what is a safe amount to take, as I can't take this pain much more. Im not due until April and there's no way I can cope with this until then so I'm praying the antibiotics kick in asap!

:'(

Aww that sounds horrible for you hun. I had a nasty back ache a few weeks ago and my midwife told me it was fine to take 6 paracetamol in 25 hours. They're crap though aren't they? Barely touch pain!
xx

Well so far they've been a waste of time! The dentist told me if I'm still in agony on Monday to go back and they'd start treatment without really knowing where I needed it. The thought of that is horrific to me but at this moment in time I really wouldnt care if they numbed my mouth and pulled every one of my teeth out! Clearly I'm not good with pain - god knows how I'll cope in labour!!! lol x

ps hope your back is ok x

Aw yes treatment sounds better. Can they do the treatment while you're pregnant then? My back is fine now....just seems to be one thing after another at the moment though!!!

xx

He said it's not ideal to treat it, but it's better to get it sorted than have me in pain for another 4 months as this would only lead to me feeling stressed out. He said it would have to be a case of trial and error trying to find the source of the infection though, so could end up being a bit of an ordeal! I've been really lucky up to now and have had barely any problems during my pregnancy, then this week - bang - the arrival of heartburn and severe toothache! Just hope it goes away in next couple of days and doesn't ruin my Christmas! xx

Ah bless you. I really hope they can do something to help you to feel better. I've had really nasty heartburn too, especially at night time...thank goodness for Gaviscon!!!

xx

I had terrible SPD and I took 2 paracetamol every 4 hours (prescribed by the consultant at the hospital) and the baby is fine, as hardly any paracetamol passes through the blood xx

Ah hun i really feel for you...ive had everyones share in toothache, its the worst pain ever aswell as earache! Get some clove oil, it works for a while but make sure you can use it when pregnant xx

Oh and what about getting one of them temporary filling sets you can get them in chemists if theres a hole in your tooth that caused the infection but again check you can use them xx

I've just had really bad muscle pains due to flu and my GP told me that 6 paracetamol a day is ok if you want to be on the safe side. I feel for you though, sounds like you are in a lot of pain and paracetamol are rubbish really! My doc was prepared to give me some codeine (cause I am tri 2) but in the end I said no and stuck with paracetamol xx

Oh dear, poor you. I had a wisdom tooth infection a while back and I can honestly say there were times the pain was so bad I even wished the baby wasn't there just so I could take stronger pankillers.

I was allowed to take paracetemol with codine which was 1000% better than paracetemol alone. Check with your doctor though as that was first tri and it might be different for tri 2.

I hope you feel better soon. I felt much better about 36 hours after I started the antibiotics

x
