Hi,

My daughter was checked for tongue tie today and she does have it which explains her fussiness when feeding and bad wind. Anyone had theirs sorted and did it improve feeding? (I breastfeed)

Yep jake had 100% tie and couldnt latch on my breast at all. He could bottle feed but in process took in a lot of air leading to colic.
We had to pay privately to have his cut (nhs don't do it in Wales apparently, even tho it would have definitely affected his speech and solid food eating)....anyway best thing we ever did!! Very simple procedure and his feeding improved instantly.

Word of advice tho, apparently it's hereditary (me, my brother, my aunty and my gramp have it) so I will be checking next baby's straight away and getting it cut that week...because we didn't have any advice we left it 6weeks with jake and I feel so bad about it
Xxx

Yep! Snipped at 1 week old and solved a lot of feeding and latching problems. He would slip off my boob and leave a slanted nipple.

Didn't solve his reflux mind but made a massive difference and didn't even make a noise when he had it done bless him!

And that's shocking about Wales!!

No one in my family or hubbies has ever had tongue tie- never knew it was passed down? Maybe he was Unlucky - disnt your hospital peads check for this at his post natal check as a newborn before discharge? It's standard here in England!

Both of mine had it. I didn't find out about the older one having it until the second one was diagnosed and snipped and they said "have you noticed your older child also has one." Both of mine could sort of latch on but kept coming off and fussing and clicking sometimes. It explains why I BF the older one every other hour for four months (horrific). The BF was better after the separation with my younger son and I had an easier time of it. Word of warning though - it grew back! However, by the time it had properly grown back he was much bigger and partially weaned. I would recommend that you go for it. People say that it's as up intrusive as an ear piercing and I would agree with that. I didn't find it distressing, sort of similar I would say to watching your kids have a vaccination. Plus, when they're tiny they won't remember anyway.

My older son still has his fully and does have some speech issues.

DD has a tongue tie (so do I) the MW at birth said it wasn't too severe so we left it. She's still breastfeeding now at 14 months, her latch isn't traditional but it works, though there was some pain in the early days.
We are in Wales too and the HV said we could have had it cut on the nhs when I mentioned it to her...she was about 8 weeks then but we declined as we had established feeding as it was. Weird how things differ from area to area!

I think my daughters is about as severe as mine and I've never had any issues with speech or feeding etc.

Xx
