To OPK or not to OPK

We're going to start trying in March, I have only ever used OPK's when coming off the depo injection, which was more to keep me sane as I had no idea if I was ovulating or not and so constantly thought any symptom meant I was pregnant.

When we first decided we would start trying again at some point in the new year, we decided it was going to be a casual thing - however the more we talk about it the more we want it and I'm wondering whether I should OPK.

I get a lot of CM so have a good idea of ovulation from that, although I'm not an expert - this month has confused me as I've had loads of watery CM after the egg white CM which I don't remember getting so much of in the past.

Is it something you would recommend or should I wait and see how we get on without?

I usually fell pregnant when not using them. Too stressful. We decides just to dtd whenever I got ewcm.

Obviously if you feel better using them go for it. X

I'm going to try using them to see what my cycles doing...but I'll just keep it to myself as o/h gets put off by anything like that haha. I have used them before but only for two months as I soon fell preggers with my second so maybe they worked for us :)

I have done OPKs for a while and have enough left for another 2 cycles then I'm stopping buying them. I think they're useful for getting to know your cycle especially if you're irregular. My cycles are very regular so there isn't much else they can tell me about it. Also if you're dtd regularly, you'll be covered anyway. Again, they may be more useful if you're trying to time dtd around ovulation. Hope that helps!!

After I had my son, my cycles were all over the place, so I did use OPKs for a month or 2. It seems they work really well for some women, but they drove me absolutely batty. The lines did not get progressively darker, no matter how consistent I was with my testing time. The darkness of the lines was totally inconsistent. I'd get an almost-positive line, then a super light one, then an almost-positive one for a few days, then light lines for a few days... and I never ever saw a true positive. I stopped using them cause it was just too stressful and discouraging!

One of my good friends swears by them though, she gets no line or a very very light line and then around cd10-11 it gets darker until she gets a positive and then it's lighter again. Super consistent and predictable. So again, it depends - if it works for you and makes things less stressful, absolutely use them!

Well my husband has told me we're dtd every other day if not more haha - he's tried saying we should do that now to practice too but we've both been ill so not really up to it. I might not bother for the first few months and if we don't fall with plenty of baby dancing and looking at CM then I'll give them a shot.

Thank you

I would try without...they are stressful. If you dtd every other day when you have EWCM that should be find anyway.

I used them religiously and it did pick up my lh surge but wasnt getting pregnant so stopped opk-ing and just dtd when we felt like it. It was much more relaxing....this is the cycle i caught! Good luck x

I think you've convinced me to go without :) Quite happy with that decision, I just wish this next month would hurry up. I can't wait to start

If you know you're going to be dtd lots then I definitely wouldn't bother. You'll be covered anyway.
