Hi ladies,

Was looking for some advice. I've had the copper coil fitted yesterday. It was fitted ok but since, sorry if tmi, but i've had a lot of bloody discharge, very similar to a bloody show. All so my threads are right down by the opening of my foof. Is this normal? I don't want to go dtd if its not fitted right. Should I go back to the docs to get it removed as I could have an infection?

Thanks for any advice. Xx

I think it can cause you to bleed, I had a very heavy bleed after mine was fitted which i think was a period. I'm not sure about the threads though, I don't know how far down they are meant to come?

I had mine checked as it made me have a nasty discharge and I was worried about it being infected.

Thanks hun. It seems to have started a my period, urgh. Feel terrible. I'm gonna see how it goes as I have a six week check up for it.

Sounds like a plan. I want it to work out but I'm giving it 6 months and if I don't like and the periods haven't settled down it it's coming out.

I got the copper one fitted recently and had a similar thing! Tmi but I seem to get loads of cm and it was blood tinged at first! Took me back to the days of labour symptom spotting!
The strings sound like they might be a bit long on yours though? Have you tried dtd? I can barely reach my strings :o

I'm hoping the coil works for us all, I've heard lots of stories of it not working out!

I've not tried dtd yet as just wanted it to settle down. Things seem better. A few crampy days but just a bit of discharge now. I may get adventurous soon lol. Interestingly enough though I was worried as I already suffer from dysmenorrhea and thought it would make periods worse it did until I started drinking raspberry leaf tea. Apparently it's really good for cramps and regulating your cycle and it seems to be helping. The alternative was taking strong painkillers thàt make me all spacey and its not an option when I'm on my own with a 3month old. I really hope it works for us all too. X

When mine was fitted I bled for a few days. Maybe they just didnt trim the strings short? My strings are reachable but not right down iykwim?
Mine hasn't affected my periods at all, I only get light ones :) x

You usually have a follow up appt. I did with my mirena. If not go back, as my mirena kept falling down to the os of my cervix, so we tried pushing it back in with something called a sound, metal tube.
It didn't work, I bled very heavily, and felt awful for the 2 weeks. So I had mine removed.

Yours may settle, but I'd def get it checked. They can make you bleed or a while when you first have it in.

Sazz, the bleeding is probably fine, but the strings shouldn't be that low. You should have a check at 6 weeks but I wouldn't wait until then. If you feel back along the strings, is it just that the strings are long, you could be able to feel maybe a cm worth, or can you feel the device? If the strings are just long they can trim them.

I would have it checked if you have an concerns before you rely on it for contraception.
