What's the best way to treat these in Pg?

Tmi alert!

I've Been constipated my whole life, (thanks to IBS) and had bad fissures in my teens which took many months to heal.

Since being Pg, I haven't had to take laxatives as my body has regulated whooo whoop! Until the last week or so.
Went to the loo finally today, it was excruciating with a lot of pain. Lots of fresh blood too.

So, my fissure (s) is/are back. Last time I got a cream from the GP, but didn't know if anyone had any advice?

I've restarted my laxatives and upped my fluid intake now too.

Its made me less worried about tearing during labour though!

Xx

Ah huni I got a bad one from when i was breast feeding cuz my body dehydrated and I got so sore and tore :( I had to have operations involving Botox procedures in the affected muscle to give it chance to heal. My dr couldn't even see what the problem was, he told me it was in my mind, I was like erm are u joking?! After a year of being fobbed off with pile cream and lavender oil, I went private and within 4 weeks of seeing the consultant I'd had the operation. It took two operations to fix it but its fine now, but I'm so worried its goin to come back!

I don't know what they can do while you're pregnant tho, as I was put under a general for the ops. I'd see your doctor, hopefully they are much better than mine was!!! All I know is plenty of water, twice as much as u think is enough, and nice warm baths with the lavender oil in to soothe it and help it heal x

Get to doctor so they can check it and prescribe something safe. Sounds nasty hun!
I have ibs too but luckily it's manageable by diet. Had a miserable childhood on lactulose though. :-(
X

I've seen lots of surgeries done for anal fissures on only bad cases but none on pregnant women. Might have to wait till after pregnancy for that I'd imagine if really bad.

Since you live with IBS, you would know more. I guess just increase fiber in your diet and lots of fluids so your stools pass more easily. Wipe your bum with water and possibly mild soap as often as possible and keep it super clean and dry?

Sorry to hear you're going through this.:-(

Thanks for your replies ladies. Its a vicious cycle unfortunately, as I know each time i poo ill tear and it will hurt, I stop going, then get more constipated etc!I've re started my lactulose to make it easier to go, and ill re start my Fybogel too.
Might get some pile cream with numbing stuff in for when I need to go!

I was threatened with surgery when I was about 16. I was so scared I never went back about it, just hoped it would finally go away. Imagine saying to a scared teen on her own, 'yeah they put you under a general and stretch your anus out'! Funny when I look back!

Luckily I have drs Mon (an appt I made a month ago) so ill ask then.

Thank god for this forum, nothing is ever TMI!

Hi SpinSugar!

I have bad constipation aswell (got IBS too) and it has been terrible lately but I have found one thing to help (but you need to take it regularly to really kick in and help). Soak 4-5 prunes in water (if you can manage 1/2liter) for a couple of hours then eat the prunes and drink the water slowly. This is far better than prune juice. I reckon it has something to do with using the dried fruits in water. I wouldnt use to many more than 4-5 per day as I got horrendous wind!!!!

It has helped me loads when I do it every day!!

Hope you feel better soon and they heal really quickly! XXX

Hi Hun, not sure about during pregnancy (so may be no help) but maybe a suppository? I also have IBS and ended up with a fissure when I was you younger and that's what I had to have.
X

Thanks both, really useful. Not sure I could stomach the prunes, I find a glass of Fybogel bad enough but I might try it!
Suppositories are a fab idea. Will try that! Thanks

I have flaring crohns & am 10 weeks pregnant. I found an egg cup full of lactulose before bed does the trick x

You can still use Anusol hun - I did and my baby is healthy :)

I had the same thing happen to me when i was younger then they healed and when i had my DD they reopened nothing from the doctor worked two years after she was born I started drinking that actimel drinks every morning within a week I noticed a difference, a month before my son was born they had healed prefectly, they reopened after having my son, tryed the drink again and they healed by the time he was 3 months.

they cost but worked for me, try what you feel you should this way nothing harmful passes through milk x x x

Ah the dreaded fissure!

I've suffered with lazy bowels since i were little, about 9 i think the first time i started getting poorly. Since my teens it got worse and i got my first fissure, felt like i was pooping glass! I ended up on movicol, occasionally lactulose, some sort of gel for my bum, also started eating weetabix daily and drinking at least a liter of water (hate plain water!). Was also threatened with surgery...needless to say i never complain about the fissure anymore, just kinda learned to cope with it. This is gonna sound mental but when it's bad and i have to strain i end up panting, like in labour! And it actually works 9 times out of 10, it stops me from tearing!

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do/take other than lactulose in pregnancy. Definitely worth asking the doctor tho. I've been fairly lucky so far, pregnancy has seemed to make me regular...think i've only suffered once! Which isn't bad :D
