Tips on turning breech baby / c-section question

OK well babys still breech and showing no signs of moving at all, shes been breech approx 80-90% of the time since about 20 weeks so really seems to like that position. Shes not changed positions (apart from slight rotation) at all for the past 4-6 weeks, I can tell this as I get kicked in the bladder as a constant reminder & punches are always in same place more or less! lol

I have been told getting on all fours and rocking back and forth can help, also making sure I sit up straight and dont slouch & swimming. Are there any other methods that I can try to coax her to move around & not go back into breech position? I have pretty bad pelvic pain & also SPD so it needs to be gentle :)

MW said if shes been breech for this long then theres a good chance she will stay like this but theres plenty of time for her to change her mind, I'm worried now that I may have to have a c-section so have started to mentally prepare myself for if that is the case, lil madam she is!

If she decides to stay breech (which hopefully she wont!) then what is the procedure for c-section etc? Will I be scanned first? I next see my MW at 33 weeks, what will happen if shes still breech then?

Sorry for all the questions, its just something that I would like to prepare myself for just incase as I dont want it to come as a huge shock and not be able to deal with it!
 
Here is a list I found below- some of them high on the entertainment value. My friend who's baby was breech used to lie on an ironing board propped up on the sofa so her head was lower than her feet and that worked



Here are 17 Ways to Turn Your Breech Baby!
Be sure to check with your provider before trying the positions for turning a breech baby to see if there is any reason why you should not use them.

1. Visualizing the baby moving down with the head very deep in your pelvis, several times a day; especially in conjunction with positions and exercises below.
2. Swimming as often as possible. This keeps your body and pelvis loose and relaxed. Do in conjunction with headstand below if you have help.
3. Headstand - with assistance and in a pool frequently as possible.
4. Breech Tilt - begin at 32-35 weeks gestation. Do 3 times daily for 10-15 minutes each time, when you have an empty stomach, and the baby is active. Prop one end of an ironing board securely on a sofa or chair 12 to 18 inches high (or may use slant board). Lie down, bend knees but keep feet flat on board. Relax, breathe deeply, avoid tensing. May also use pillows on a flat surface to raise hips 12-18" above shoulders. Gravity pushes the baby's head into the fundus, tucks it, and baby can then do a somersault to a vertex position.
5. CD/iPod headphones - place them inside mom's pants toward her pubic bone and play classical music for 10 minutes 6-8 times a day.
6. Flashlight - try moving slowly down from the top of the uterus toward your pubic bone while you are in a breech tilt position.
7. Massage - start with your left hand at the bottom of the abdomen and your right hand just above it. Move move your hands clockwise around the right side of your tummy. As your right hand reaches the top of your abdomen, slide the left one over your right and move it down the left side of your tummy. Your left hand leads as you you come full circle, continuing clockwise. Massage gently as you would to apply lotion. Massage for ten minutes or more up to several times each day.
8. Clothespin - place on the small toe of each foot at the outside corner of the toenail; sideways so that the toenail and toepad are stimulated for 30 minutes per day, this is an acupressure point that is a "moving down" point. You can also do this with just finger pressure as you remember to do it.
9. Motion Sickness band - place with the bead four fingerwidths above the inner ankle bone - another acupressure point that is used for stimulation of the uterus. Do not use this point if you are experiencing any pre-term labor.
10. Glass of orange or other juice - follow this with a side-lying position with your hips positioned higher than your feet. Babies move more after a sugar high!
11. Pelvic Tilt- with an ice pack on the top of your tummy on an empty stomach, 10 minutes twice a day. Do this while lying on your back on the floor with knees flexed and feet on the floor with three large pillows placed under your buttocks. Try this in conjunction with headphones and visualization.
12. Cat stretch - start with all fours, then lay your head and chest flat on the floor with your buttocks in the air, as you round your back and return to all fours.
13. Knee-chest position - by kneeling with hips flexed slightly more than 90 degree, but with thighs not pressing against your tummy and your head, shoulders and upper chest are flat on a mattress for 15 minutes every two waking hours for five days.
14. Belly Relaxing followed by Inversion - Partner places a shawl, sheet, towel or rebozo under mom's hips as she lays on the floor. Lift up on the corners of the cloth and shimmy her from side to side moving your hands up and down to wiggle her belly from side to side. These should be very small movements which mom should find very relaxing. Do this for about 5 minutes. Then mother kneels on the stairway landing. Walk your hands down 2 or 3 stairs into an all fours position; have your partner support your shoulders to balance you. Remain in this position for about 5-10 minutes or as long as comfortable. Also do this on an empty stomach.
The following techniques to turn breech babies to vertex involve the assistance of a specialist or medical professional:
15. Acupuncture - find a acupuncturist who is familiar with pregnancy and knows the points to stimulate for turning a breech baby.
16. Webster's Breech Technique - see a Chiropractor who is experienced in this technique.
17. External Version - this can be done in the hospital at about 37 weeks; see an Ob-Gyn for assistance and more information.

i wud recommend the ioning board one! i read about it about 2 weeks before i was due and baby was still breach despite me trying loads on that list! he wud move and my belly wud start sticking out in all sorts of places but i think he was to big by then to turn right around! im sure he got sideways a few times but just couldnt get any further so i ended up havin a c-section...good luck! i no how frustrating it is! keep us informed!
 
My bump has finally turned. Am sure i felt it last week.

I know what you mean about preparing for c-section. Am in a similar situation due to low lying placenta and it is hard to get your head around the fact that at 37 weeks it might be all over.

I don't want a c-section but if I have to then i know it is out of my hands. That is is inn the best interest of the baby and myself. I keep telling myself that when i worry about it lots.

You still have lots of time for bump to change position but i understand how it is nice to know it has happened and it is then one less thing to worry about.

im booked in for a section, some hospitals will offer another scan at 33 weeks, which is when im finding out date and time of my section.

they you will just go into hospital like your were having a routine op done. taken down to theatre, whilst OH goes and gets dressed in scrubs. then about 1/2 hour later you will be in recovery with your baby.

the actualy procedure is simple and straight forward, its just such a major shock to the system as its all done so quick, not like being in labour and slowly geting used to idea that baby is coming.

i dont remember my last section much, i had some troubles and had a major shaking fit from the shock and was in recovery for 17 hours before going onto ward.

they tend to do sections about 39 weeks for some reason :?
 
hey hun not much help all i can suggest is to try and sit up staright at any time you can maybe that will work :hug:
 
I had an emergency C-section after a very long and painful backt o back labour with baby head in a funny position.

I was terrified of ever having to have a C-section but just wanted to reassure you that IF it does end up that you need one, it really was fine. My recovery was quick and it wouldn't be as traumatic if it is planned rather than an emergency. (i Know it is still scary)

I know it isnt what anyone wants really but if you have any questions i am happy to help :)

Accupuncture worked for me i was brrech up until i went into labour...and i'm one of those crazy ladies who would have demamnded they find me an experienced midwife and delivered naturally.....its the lack of experience in midwives today that count for the automatic c section in this situation.

I have a friend who had four natural breech births....(her kids are all grown up now) But that is unheard of these days. :think:

millie was breech right up until 36 weeks and i was preparing myself for a c section. from when i found out at 33 weeks i slept on my left side, sat forward in my seat with my knees below my hips (so was generally uncomfy for 3 weeks- i love slouching!) and i bought a gym ball and bounced on it. i read about accupressure and squeezed my little toes (i think it was) when i remembered.

also, i kno it sounds dumb, but i was also willing her to turn! i was just thinking positive and trying to focus on her head being down :rotfl:
i laugh now but who knows lol maybe mind over matter CAN help!

hope she turns for u hun!
 
Hey hun, are you delivering at Oldham?

There was a lady who was being admitted in the bed right next to me. she was in for a c section coz she had a stubborn baby ;)


SHe arrived at 9 went thru all the pre c section stuff with the nurses, signed consent etc, then the surgeon came and did a scan "jsut in case" adn baby had turned, so they sent her home!


So yeah, if ur in Oldham, they scan before you go to theatre....




In regards to madam turning... my midwife said not to worry if baby was breach as i think its up to 34/36 that babies usually turn....
