Tips moving toddler to big girls bed

Hmmm... OH is putting him to bed and it doesn't sound like it's going well

Katie climbs out of her cot every morning, its pushed right to my bed so she clambers in  She puts the blankets on herself and asks for cbeebies  :oooo:

How sweet! Sam loves sitting in our bed watching telly  (no chance of us having anything we want to watch on though!)

Still lots of noise upstairs!

ooo good luck hun, hope he settles soon, and it all works out ok

They're bound to see it as a toy

We've given up  He's in his cot.

Now I need to sort out dinner!

We can't decide if we should keep trying every night or leave it a few weeks now and try again... he got into his bed and lay down for a story but then kept getting up to get more books. Every time he lay down he said 'night night' but clearly didn't plan to go to sleep. He's gone straight to sleep in his cot though

It's a whole new room we're moving him into but it's all been set up for months and if people come to visit and I tell him to show them his room he'll take them straight up there and get into bed, so he's used to it but he's never slept in there.

Do you think we should try moving the bed out for now and putting his cot in the new room so he gets used to sleeping in there?

i'd give that ago, i remember when doing the transition from moses basket to cot you move the moses basket into the cot or into the room atleast, and that seems to work, so may work.

How would you feel about leaving it a few weeks? Does he nap during the day or anything? Maybe take the few weeks to get him use to lying in his bed, and napping, reading a story and then saying no more, do you have the books on a shelf in easy reach for him?

He doesn't nap during the day any more unless we're out in the car - my original plan was to put him in there for naps but as soon as we put the bed up he stopped sleeping after lunch!

The books are right next to his bed on a low shelf...thought it would be nice for him when he woke up in the morning or to choose one before bed but I'm not sure if it's a good idea now  I think it might be better to leave it a few weeks anyway - I wanted to try ages before we needed the cot in case he wouldn't sleep in there, and I do have a travel cot I could put Toby in for a couple of weeks if he's too big for the crib and Sam's still in the cot... or we could just get a second hand cot for our room and leave Sam where he is for now so I don't really have to do any of this yet. He's just been so excited about getting into his bed during the day (just to lie down and pretend to snore ) that I thought it might be ok tonight!

We've got really narrow door frames (only managed to find one pressure gate in the world that is narrow enough to fit!) so I need to completely take the cot apart to move it, and if it's not going to work it'll be a nightmare moving it back again! x

Sorry Wobbs... didn't mean to take over your thread

dont move it then hunni... i woudlnt, like you said he's only young still and unless it was drastic for him to move, let him get use to his room during the day, and who knows maybe he will just want to sleep in his bed one night, if not a couple of weeks all might be different and you may find he'll be fine.

Could always really tire him out, so he falls straight to sleep on his bed!!

That's what we were hoping for last night, but he fell asleep in the back of OH's car when we went to collect mine (had it serviced yesterday) at about dinner time so he wasn't that tired at bedtime and just wanted to play. He's usually so good with going to bed!

I think we'll leave his bed where it is for now and keep him in the cot a bit longer. There are loads of other options for Toby anyway, and I don't want to upset Sam buy trying to force him in there if he's not ready. Thanks :) x
