Good luck! I don't know anything about sections, but usually they fill your stomach with gas when you have a laparoscopy in order to actually create space to work in. But that's something completely different to a section.

Amber was born at 09:07 am and M/W's got me out of bed at about 10 the next morning

Don't actually remember mine being put in so probably didn't hurt but remember it being taken out and it was fine, didn't hurt, was a little uncomfortable though because I felt really desperate for the loo!

I wasn't filled up with gas but according to the doctor I'd had a bit too much G&A in labour!

I was in recovery for about 2 hours but I'd had complications and then we were taken to the delivery suite and stayed there for about 4 hours as I had to have a blood transfusion. As yours is an elective c section (planned) it will be fairly straight forward. My aunty has had 2 elective c sections after an emergency and she said it is really relaxed and she actually enjoyed the experience of it all.

Good luck for tomorrow hun

I dont rememeber this hun, ask when you get there

You come back to the ward pretty quickly, then you'll be recovering for a good few weeks.

oooh and il be 36+6 (ticker a day wrong) will they give me a steroid injection for babies lungs or is that only for babies a lot earlier?

I dont think they will as really you are near on 37 weeks which is full term.

Hope that helps hun,
Will be thinking of you and as said in pm I will update in the afternoon when I return home :cheer:

Bet you cant wait to meet your LO :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

hey in im not much help other than to say i had a catheter after i had Flo as apprently my bladder or something or other was stopping the placenta coming out so. . . yeah but it didnt hurt too much at all, bit stingy but nothing to worry about !!!

SOo much good luck for 2morow !! xxx

I didn't have a section but wanted to say that I doubt they will give your baby steroids. Nathan was born at 35 weeks and they didn't give him any. I was told they only do it when you're 34 weeks and under.

Good luck :D x

how long after a section until you were up and walking about?

I had Sydnee at 05.49am and in recovery just before 7am. They took me onto the ward at about 2pm and at 3pm I went for a jolly (I was in to be induced the previous day and climbing the walls) but they made OH take me in a wheelchair. I was wandering (though sorely) a couple of hours later. The nurses do think my stuborness and refusal to stay in bed aided me though as I had little swelling and wasn't feeling pain etc unless I poked the scar before the first week was up.

Do thy always put a catheter in? when do they do it? and does it hurt ???

I don't remember mine being put in...It didn't hurt, but they'd just given me an epi so that's probably why  You see I was in to be induced but baby was in distress, so things probably aren't the same as an elective. They did the epidural as they'd been trying to break my waters through a closed cervix and made a bit of a mess of me. Only her heartrate dropped as soon as I had the epidural and ddin't raise again, hence being whisked to theatre.

I wasn't filled with anything. That night I had the most awful pain in my neck/shoulder, which they said was caused by air entering during the procedure. They gave me some peppermint water and I was fine within a few minutes.

Sydnee was born at 05.49am. Her and my OH went off to recover, I was stitched up and joined them an hour or so later. I went onto the main ward about 2pm, no idea why it wasn't sooner though.

how long after a section until you were up and walking about?
The next day.

Do thy always put a catheter in? when do they do it? and does it hurt :? ???
Yes, I had a catheter in. They do it when you're having the section and you can't feel a thing.

Whats this about just before they stich you up they fill your stomach with gas  i imagine you spend the rest of the day tooting away then  is this painfull and why do they do it?I think you can sometimes get referred pain from the wind in your shoulder blades. Peppermint tea or peppermint cordial is supposed to be really good for any pain. My hospital had peppermint cordial there but you might want to take some with you incase. I never got any pain from wind though.

how long do you spend in recovery? and why if your awake anyway?
I was in there for about 20 hours but only because I had pre-eclampsia.

oooh and il be 36+6 (ticker a day wrong) will they give me a steroid injection for babies lungs or is that only for babies a lot earlier?I had Tom at 37wks exactly and he didn't have a steroid injection for his lungs. I think 37 weeks is considered full-term anyway.

Don't be nervous...seriously...I thought my section was a breeze!!

Good luck! How exciting!
