Hi all, pointless thread, just having another rant.
just a visit from a 'weaning lady' to get me all prepared for weaning zak. Well.... all i can say is that im glad ive got pf !! ive learnt sooo much more on here reading these threads than i learnt from her ! absolutely useless. feel like ive got so many more questions bt she was in a big rush to get out of here after turning up 20 mins late. y did i bother waiting in on such a nice day for that ??! xx

Aw no :( what a shame x we're very happy to answer any questions and we've got lots of time for you too :)

i know. thanks. ive been reading ur blw journal... really interesting, not something she ever mentioned. can i ask how u found out about it all? and how old was ur LO when u started ? x

My hv only gave me a weaning leaflet and that was outdated!!
Even though I weaned my daughter years ago there's so much I've forgotten so glad I got this place!

I saw the sticky BLW thread in alternative parenting and was so interested and absolutely determined not to give purees after reading lots of research and realising it was unnecessary. You have to wait until they're 6 months old to do BLW (though Seb was 23 weeks so not quite 6 months) but seeing as that's the recomendation now anyway I found it easy to wait :)

I just got given a leaflet when Pauric was 14 weeks :)

Purees aren't unnecessary in my opinion. It seems completely natural to give a young baby who's learning to eat, soft mashed up food to try. And when they feel they want to pick foods up to try great, but nothing wrong with them testing flavours from a spoon that you give them.

i totally agree and as i keep saying ellie has no gag reflex so i cant just go ramming lumpy food in her mouth, think its a cheek to come on here and say its unnecessary to give purees when for some babies its not x

In my opinion BLW is "trendy" at the moment and its seen as the proper way of doing things because it's so recent. But fair enough if people want to do that, just don't think it's the only way to feed a child.

I just got handed a leaflet too.. "Have a read".. Tbh I do understand the whole "trend" of BLW.. I wasn't going to set myself certain rules for feeding Odhrán, it was up to him, as a younger child I gave him purees but if he put his hand out and wanted to grab the spoon I let him, along with any other bits and pieces he went for.. In my eyes that's what BLW is all about, the baby taking the lead, not the parent x

^^Totally agree, I'm taking Cahals lead with everything at the moment, he can try things BLW style if he likes, and I introduce new tastes in the form of pureed or mashed food. What we now have is a good mix of baby led and traditional weaning. I don't know who decided there should be these 'rules'. As long as you give your baby good nutritious food, just go with the flow I say!

I'm not having a dig, but I just don't see how BLW is BLW if a parent is putting solid foods in the babys hand and encouraging them to munch on it, I respect everyones individual decision but the whole concept of it was a bit contradicting IMO xx

You're right, it's not BLW to put food in the babies hand and encourage them.

Unnecessary for us. Stop jumping to conclusions.

Its really down to personal choice isnt it ? As I weaned Aoibheann at four months I used purées and mashes until she hit six months and by the she was eating with her hands anyway , I weaned her because she cut teeth very early and I felt she was ready , some mums wean because there is a medical need . At the end of the day all that matters is that we do what we feel is best for our babies :hugs: . As for your weaning visitor , how annoying ! I was given no information and got my best advice from other mums , after all the best support and advice you will get is from someone going thorough the same things .

I agree it is completely down to choice. Some babies need to be weaned so early that BLW isn't possible :-(. Personally, I don't think it matters too much, as long as our babies are getting a varied range of tastes, textures etc? Why does it matter how they get it?? X

I think so too , I never really know there was different names for different types of weaning until I joined here , I just did what felt right for us . xx
