... say i need to pack a few front opening nighties in my hospital bag. they sound horriffic and im gettin images of my nans nightie (cotton, flowery with a frilly trim down to ur ankles)

nighties are not really my thing anyway, i prefer pj's. ive bought some strechy shorts pj's which i think will do for breast feeding, especially during the summer.

Please tell me i dont need the nighties

I didn't use any nighties I don't think you really need them, I just wore a pair of large comfy PJs. :D

You don't need front opening nighties...your images made me laugh :D

I took lots of scretchy pj bottoms and loads of t-shirts. i even gave birth in my trusty old t-shirt. You could have front opening pj tops to breast feed....i didn't even have those...i just swung the curtain across for a bit of privacy and sat in my bra breast feeding.
Honestly don't worry to much what you look like...i guarantee most of the ladies on the ward will look like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards and no one will care.

I only wore a big nightie while in labour!
Like you I prefer pjs so I just wore big open front pjs for feeding!

In the hospital it would totally depend on how your labour was as to whether or not you would need a nightie when you're on the ward.

For starters you may have a catheter, and PJs won't be any good for that, also, say you had a section or something, the PJs might irritate your scar, or something? and the MWs might want to check you over a lot and it would mean struggling with your trousers all the time.

I wouldn't say you definitley need one, but I had a nice one with a few buttons at the top and it was perfect.

Oooh good point urchin I think everything is already a blur! I did have a lovely hospital gown on for 24 hours or so after but I had had a section and had a catheter and they wanted to clean up down there
So I think a nightie would have been better than one of those! To be honest nobody is looking their best and nobody really cares either!!!!
once the catheter was taken out I put my pjs on but my scar is very low down under my knicker line so it did't irritate!
I got some cheap open front nighties from asda for 8 quid for two! no point in spending alot!

I was like you and dreaded the thought of those hideous nighties that make you either look like daisy from keeping up appearances or nana from the royal family!

I went shopping for mine last week and managed to find two nightshirts! They are great, buttons all the way down like wearing a long shirt, they are from tk maxx, I was really chuffed as I thought I would be looking hideous - and I know that all of you will say that I won't care, which I know I won't, but I care now!!!!!

i was more comfy in pyjamas that buttoned on the top half. i did have a pair of nighties from mothercare that buttoned just a little way down and they were cool and not granny -ified!! i found these more comfy when i had a catheter in.

I wore a nightie when I was in labour but afterwards I wore pyjamas. If you are breastfeeding then it is a good idea to either buy pyjamas where the top has clips for breastfeeding or else the with straps that slip down easily. Mothercare do nighties that have just a few buttons down the front for breastfeeding.

thanks for your posts girls. given what you said urchin, i think i will look for one but im gonna make sure i pack my pj's too

i wore a nightie while in labour and afterwards as i tried breast feedin in hospital :)

i found them really comfortable :D
