Hi guys...

just coming on for a bit of a rant :( I have my first midwife appointment today and I have just found out that i need to get blood taken :(

It usually takes me about 3days to prepare for this as i am so terrified...and i only found out this morning :(

I also don't want to be weighed or get my stomoach out in front of my boyfriend as i am very self conscious :(

Can anyone else relate or let me know what other surprises i am due in for?

ur gonna be getting u tummy out a lot.. so i suggest if its that bad dont take him with u..bloods usually taken at 12,16 weeks and maybe after that to chk iron and that..blood pressure ect..jsut try to chill out.. theres worse things in the world than having these things done.

 aww dont worry about it.. your boyfriend is only going to see you belly getting bigger anyway!

as for the blood tests... i was absolutely petrified but when she had done them, i couldnt believe how soft i was being. they hhardly hurt at all.
after i went for my scan, i had to see the midwife and straight away she said im gonna take some more blood. this was without any warning but it didnt bother me at all and she did it there and then.

you will also be asked about family health history of you and your boyfriend.
she will also go through what tests you can have etc

hope this helps and good luck

Oh, you are b*ggered, to be it bluntly. You have to have your trousers rolled down passed your pubic line for scans, if the doctor can not scan the baby properly via your tummy, he will need to do it internally. This is with a camera that is situated in a plastic tube, maybe 2 cms in width and he sticks it up you.

You will also need a smear test taken and the doctor likes to do an internal exam to make sure everything is fine. I think you need to through your insecurites away hun, by the time the baby is born, you will have no shame

My spelling has gone to pot!!

The doctor couldn't see junior's kidneys as he was moving about all the time, so he had to stick the scanner thingy up me. I hated it, my fella had to stand outside of the curtain as he couldn't bare to watch. Even though the doctor was actually looking down there, it was a horrid feeling, when I left the room, I went for a cry in the toilet!

well i was 6w5d when i had the internal scan.. was kinda expecting it anyway because i was so early.
once she had it up, i could hardly feel anything (idont have a bucket thingy by the way :rotfl: )
my mum came with me though, cos shane couldnt get off work cos of the short notice, but it didnt bother me at all.

the cold gel just shocked me a little bit! lol

If you hate injections, you could ask them to use a butterfly instead of a needle and syringe as usual.

The nurse made a right mess of my arm using a needle, but tried again in the other arm with a butterfly - a much smaller needle connected to a tube that collects the blood more easily. She told me to ask them to use that instead in future.
