Will I have to pay this? My tax year is april to april and I am getting SMP until mid April next year..

My years wages will be less than the 10k income limit for this year because of this. So anyone know if ill be tax free?

Just wanna start preparing.. lol xx

The standard tax code this year (from 6 April 2013) is 944L. Anything over £9445 is liable to 20% tax.

Really then that means SMP will be tax free! :) thanks x

Just check about national insurance contributions. I'm not sure if it's different to tax. Also if you pay into a work pension this also has to be paid.

Oh ok. NI is not a lot anyway i don't think. And i don't pay into a pension yet. That starts at 23, so will be when i return. Thanks ladies x

I didn't pay any tax or nationl insurance on my smp as it comes below the approx £180 per week you can earn before paying any. In fact I got about £5 per week paid back from the tax man as I'd paid too much before smp. That's on basic smp though so if you have any set of maternity package of being paid any extra then it could be different x
