The least painful place to get tattooed is at the top of your arm.

It feels hot and sharp. Don't know how else to describe it. Anyway its about a million times less painful than labour IMO!

Mine hurt more on my arms than on my shoulder.

I think everyone is differant with differant pain thresholds so i dont really think anyone can say where it is less painful.

the best way to describe it im told by a tattooist who has loads of them is sunburn - and im told the top of your arm is a good place to start.

Over bone is most painful- a tattooist told me the one on my thigh, was one of the most painful places for some reason. Though he said that about my thigh, places where there are more fat rather than bone, are said to be less painful. Maybe he meant on men or skinny people's thighs, rather than mine

One on my sternum (middle top of chest) was painful- an intense burning sensation.

My lower back felt the least painful but I think I was prepared and took some paracetamol 10 or 15 mins before I went in

One on my arm was painful as he did it when I wasn't as prepared, I walked in off the street and thought I'd have to make an appointment for later or he'd have to draw it first. But he told me he could fit me in there and then

Painkillers beforehand might be a plan if you're a wuss like me

Hun it was NOTHING compared to childbirth!!
I've got 3 (legs and back) and they all didn't really hurt that much.

one thing I will say..............really think about it. I had mine done young, I'm 30 on friday (can't believe it ) and they really don't look as cool as when I was 17!!

But if you decide to do it, they don't hurt that much at all and I really am a wimp!

This is what I'm worried about too Sarah, Im getting my first tattoo done on Saturday (Its my 18th Birthday that day - Hint Hint ) I'm getting Harrison written on my wrist and I'm really scared because I don't know what to expect. I've been told so may different things...it feels like a constant bee sting or its like really bad pins and needles. Apparently there is a numbing cream you can buy but if you use it, it takes longer for the tattoo to heal

they say the back is painful like the inner part of your back at the bottom

My most painful tattoo was on my ribs, it hurt like hell. Top of my arm was fine, back of shoulders hurt a little but more. ankle was also fine.

mine is on my shoulder. for the most part it didnt hurt, just felt like someone scratching my skin really hard. it did hurt on the bone tho... oh and nowhere near as painful as childbirth

I don't know why people make such a fuss about the pain of having a tattoo done, surely if your that commited to having a particular design on your skin forever then the pain factor shouldn't come into it?
