I am 2 days away from my due date and been offered sweeps next week to try and induce.
I am very anxious about this and don't know if I want to go ahead with one and would like your opinion/experience on them.
How effective are they really?

I didn't want one as was adamant baby comes when ready. Ended up having 3!!! 2 days over, 5 days and 8 days over. 1st two my cervix was closed so they couldn't actually do them (I still count them as I was "interfered" with lol!) 3rd one on the thurs got things moving and I had my bloody show that evening, with pains/cramps all day Friday and labour started at 3am on the sat, had DD on the Saturday evening, 10 days over.
They aren't nice but they aren't horrific, bit like a smear. I didnt want one before or on my due date but would have one next time round if I wasn't adamant on having a c-sec like I ended up with this time!

I have had sweeps in both pregnancies from DD.

First boy had 2 sweeps one at community MW one at hospital before induction. Failed sweep ended up going until 14 days over.

Second pregnancy sweep did by community mw at 40+4, no show no bled declared as unfavourable and failed sweep. Got home and was in labour until having him on the Sunday 40+6) Some failed sweep that was. I got the same mw who did the sweep as my first home visit so think so was quite amazed.

I don't exactly love them but a 5m in prod and possible labour is usually a bit more comfortable than going 2w over due imo.

I had a sweep with my LO at 40weeks. I was already 2cm dilated at that point but unfortunately the sweep didn't work for me! She was 9days late and born on the day I was due to have a second sweep!! I didn't find it painful, just slightly uncomfortable and gave me slight period pains. I also lost my plug the next day. Hope this helps! X

Does everyone lose there plug before normal labour. I'm 40 weeks today and been having period like cramps for past few days but no show or anything

I didn't. I got to 10cm for 4hr and nothing came out until they burst my waters then it was all go!

Thanks for advice. I will try a sweep on Monday. Hopefully I'll go before that lol
