sure start maternity grant??

My sister in law seems to think ill be able to claim this because i am already claiming tax credits.
but me and my partner both have jobs. he earns 27'000 and i earn 6'000 per year.
Do you think i can claim? cause now i have no idea, i told her i dont think i can?????????????
im all confuzzled

It depends on what tax credits you're getting. If you're getting child tax credits at a higher rate than the family element then i think you're entitled to the grant.

What is considered a high rate ?? cause i only get about £41 a month so i doubt i would be entitled to it

The family element up to £545 per year as far as i know. If you get more than this ctc then i think you're entitled to the grant.

edit to say i've just seen urchins thread:-Child Tax Credit at a higher rate than family element THIS IS £1090 IF YOU HAVE A CHILD UNDER 1 AND £546 IF YOU DON'T eg if you are still pregnant...YOU CAN CLAIM BEFORE BABY IS BORN, IF YOU LEAVE IT TOO LATE YOU MAY LOSE YOUR ENTITLEMENT TO THE GRANT!
