Hello

As many of you know, I am a biff mummy and I have been trying to maintain my starting weight during my pregnancy (under medical guidance).

It has all been going amazingly well and I had actually managed to loose some weight.

However, in the last four weeks my weight has increased enormously, about half a stone!! My bump has exploded and I know baby will be packing on the fat, but he won't have but on 7lb! (God I hope not, he was already 6lb odd at 34 weeks!!)

I have been incredibly hungry over the past few weeks, but I haven't been stuffing myself with pizzas and pasties. I have mostly stuck to meals with healthier snacks inbetween. (I have had some naughty things though, but not lots!!)

So why has my weight rocketed? Has anyone else had this? Is it normal?

Try not to worry, you are at the end of a long hard slog and your baby will probably account for half that weight. You may find you loose weight just before the end as well, this happens quite a lot. If you know that you are keeping your snacks fairly healthy then you are doing the absolute right thing. Once you start breast feeding you should really loose weight quickly so try not to be dissapointed if you have put on a few extra pounds at this late stage. You have been doing really well and nature will lend you a hand when you begin breast feeding.

By the way how do you weigh a baby before it is born, I have always wondered this and would be interested to know how much mine weighs.

 thank you, I know I shouldn't worry too much, I am still at my starting weight, I just don't want to go over if I can help it.

I know baby's approx weight from the growth scan I had at 34 weeks. They rougly assess the weight by measuring the baby's tummy. It isn;t exact though, they can be out by a pound either way I believe.

don't forget placenta (weighs loads) water, blood, baby, etc
I just don't do scales..seems to make it easier!!!

I know what you mean, all the way through I have basically stayed the same and been all bump but the last few weeks I seem to have exploded all over. I haven't weighed myself at all through my pregnancy but I will be giving myself a couple of weeks after baby is born then will have to have a plan of action to get in shape for the warmer weather :?

Ditto what Becs said :) You've done really well to keep youe weight gain at a minimum but our bodies do tend to work in mysterious ways when PG. I'd not worry about putting on that weight, considering you've not gained much, if any so far.

You could be retaining water also which will add to your weight. Might be worth just checking that out.

It seems our babies are close in weight at the 34 week stage, though my LO's tummy was measuring 38+5, head was 36+5 so I don't get the 2 weeks difference in growth and the rest being normal  Still I am really not reading much into that as tbh, there is room for error. I can't see my Biff being an 8lb at that point and am more inclined to think Biff is closer to 6lb. I'm far from huge bump wise, but then I do have a long torso. Who knows

It might just be water. I weighed myself at my Moms the other night and I was 9lb heavier on the evening then when I weighed myself the next moring.

Hi Michelle
as you know from seeing me Iam quite petite and have gained 3 stone but is has been quite constant but yes in the last week, bamn at least a good half stone and i have been hank marvin.....must be the baby telling us to eat to make sure they get enough fat on their wee bodies...

im sure it will fall off us once we breast feed and are running about
