Stitches have come out after episotomy and 2nd degree tear

im not sure as ive only grazed with both of mine, but i found pooring water overmyself when i was sitting on the loo lovely to sooth it all.

how abouthaving two jugs of water, one very slightly salted (the salt bath) and one plain water - that way if it does sting you can poor the plain water over to wash it away  if it doesn't sting that badly or at all upgrade to the bath

im sure someone will suggest something better, but this is what popped in my head when i read your post.

hope it isn't painful for much longer

I think I had this too but I refused to let anyone check! It did get better and is all healed nicely. The salt shouldn't sting - you don't need too much in a bath ful - maybe half to one cup for a full bath, something like that xxx

I had a third degree tear and an episotomy :(

It took ages to heal, around 10 days for the swelling to go down and around 6-8 weeks for it to feel comfortable, I would esp feel it if I overdid it ie walking too far.

A couple of my stitches burst as well (after about a week? trying to remember :D ) tbh it looked pretty horrible but they decided not to restitch it and left it to granulate on its own. It was explained to me along the lines that the healing process is from the inside out and they were happy that it was beginning to heal. The only thing they did was extend my antibiotics to prevent any infection.

some of my stitches fell out when i wiped after peeing. i said to the HV and she said it's usually ok, and mines healed fine. give it until wedneday when checks again, but try not to worry

p.s - i also found pouring warm water when i was peeing really good :)

Sounds like what happened to mine and I ended up with an infection too so was on antibiotics for a week.

Mine has healed fine and I was told a superficial gape is quite common. I had the salt baths as well, the MW advised it! Helps to keep it clean etc while its healing! I didnt need any more stitches either...thank god! :D

Dont worry the salt wont sting!

thanks everyone for your replies!

sam,i still have not braved the salt yet,but think i will try after speaking to the MW and see what she says

suzie,im glad you have healed okay, how long would you say it took altogether?

fluffybunny, were you put on antibiotics for this reason and was it by your MW? ....as yet i have not been told to take anything for it but paracetamol for the pain, the MW suggested anti-inflammatories but they give my bellyache :(

sarafet,im glad yours healed well! i will try the warm water...................

carley,i actually looked at it before the MW did as it did not "feel" right which was what made me look!
i also wish i hadn't :o
mine is at one side, the part where bubs comes out of,its to one side of the hole  and where it is joined on one side the other isn't IYKWIM? (lol excuse my way with words!)
it looks red raw and its so sore, its getting to me now as i feel its stopping me doing things i need to do!
i get so sore after standing for a while,it feels like my insides are dropping out of it :puke:

lisa,i was just about to post this reply when i got your response too!
thanks for the text the other day!
my MW (well all 3 i have seen since LO was born!) have all said just use plain water but i will try the salt now i think,i was just terrified it would sting as it hurts so much already :(
silly question but how do you know if you have an infection?
i definatley feel its very open to infection as it looks so raw and is so open, but as i'm still bleeding a fair bit i cannot get no fresh air to it,although i change my pad about once every half an hour just to make sure i keep it as clean as i can! (sorry TMI!)

thanks for the replies everyone,i hope i soon heal!

I was put on antibiotics from Evie's birth by the doctor at the main hospital where I went to be stitched up, then when I found the stitches had burst a week later (well OH did as he was keeping an eye on it for me, there was no way I was looking at that mess, I wanted him to know how I was suffering  ) I went to my MW. She had look and confirmed it didn't need stitching but made me an appoint with my GP to extend the antibiotics. I can remember this disgusting smell and I wasn't sure if it was the wound infected or all the old, dirty blood I was passing as my womb cleaned itself out  - god, not sure I actually want to remember all this two weeks before I'm due to give birth again!!

lol to you, hope you start to feel 'normal' again soon
ps one thing I would say is if you are worried and want to get checked out go to your MW rather than your GP, your MW sees this kind of thing all the time and will be much more knowledgeable how to deal with it. It'll all be a bit  to your GP!

I would say it took about 6 weeks to be practically pain free.

I really understand how it feels! Sitting up hurts, laughing hurts, coughing hurts, standing up hurts. It all felt to me like i was ripping apart. Not nice at all!

If you're worried at all keep asking MW to check it for you as she'll know if anything needs to be done.

Def try the salt, tea-tree oil is good too - in the bath i mean :)

It does get better, i felt like it'd never stop hurting but it does xxxxxxx

:o  sorry i did not notice your ticker!
................trust me to remind you of this so close to your LO's birth!
yes my MW was the one i asked to check me over as my doctor can be a bit useless at the best of times! :shakehead:
its the same one who is oming back on wednesday to check me again as she aid she will be able to tell if it is healing as she examined me last time.
i am still losing a fair bit of blood, its fresh though still is this normal??? :?

I know it sounds really gross but i used to sit on one of those big waterproof mats that you can get for about an hour with nothing on to let the air get to it, also as much as it hurts i think that doing the pelvic floor exercises as much as possible really helped because it gets the circulation going which encourages the tissue/muscle to get firmer and fix itself.
You'll know when it's healing because you will get an intense itch that feels more uncomfortable than the stinging but not painful IYKWIM?

thats a really good idea! :D
did you put that on top of your sofa to make it abit more comfy??
i dont think i could sit on the floor! (i can't get up again!! and its hurts as i feel i pull myself)
i know i am healing slowly as the swelling has gone down lots where the episiotomy is,its just were the sticthes have come out now, with it being at the front i can sit leaned back to take the pressure off it abit but its just the lack of walking/doing things thats annoying me as i feel its stopping me getting out and about and showing my LO off!

could you maybe put tea tree oil on your pad, its a natural anti septic so it may help with healing, i have never had this but have heard bout it. Hoe you heal ok hun, sounds painful

at least it would make me feel like i smell abit fresher too!
i am having x 3 baths a day to try and keep as clean as possible and stop any infection but i still feel smelly!

hope you and your LO are okay x
