Hi there,

I'm into the 6th week of my 2nd pregnancy (1st pregnancy m/c at 5 weeks). Yesterday I started bleeding at about 10.00pm, no pain, bleeding not overly heavy. I automa tically assumed another m/c but the bleeding ended at 1.00pm this afternoon, I had no pain or cramps with the bleeding and it just sort of ended.. could i still be pregnant? :-/

Hi Charlie,

Lots of women have bleeds during pregnancy, and as the bleed was rather short with no pain i'd say you probably are still pregnant.

I'd contact your doctor and explain what has happened.

Hi hun

I would just see your midwife or doc as soon as poss or if you have an epu near you? Was it quite heavy bleeding or was it light and spotting because many women do experience small bleeds in pregnancy especially the first few weeks. Many women go on to have health successful pregnancies. If you do get any more bleeding or any pain then maybe go to a&e if your worried, otherwise make an appointment in the morning.

Another thought have you tried the nhs direct line they maybe able to help you.

Take care hun hope everything is ok let us know   xxxxxx

I had a tiny spot of old blood a week after finding out i was pregnant. I automatically panicked as i had had a previous miscarriage. I went straight to my local walk-in centre and the doc there wasn't too worried as it was old blood and i had no pain. He told me if it got worse to go straight to a & e, but if it stayed the same to see my gp.

The bleeding got no worse, in fact it stopped like yours has, so i saw my gp and he wasn't too concerned either but he organised an early scan. That was on tuesdey and everythings perfect - foetus is where it should be and has a heartbeat.

So please don't worry as the bleedings stopped and you have had no pain. I'm sure everythings fine. But i would see your gp asap and hopefully he will get you a scan sorted to put your mind at rest

Hi there,

Thanks to you all for your kind messages of support. Just had a scan today, they tried to do one the normal way but as they couldn't see anything they did a transvaginal scan. This scan showed an "irregular gestational sac" (it was a bit of a funny shape, not round) but they could see the yolk sac and the fetal pole. They couldn't detect a heart beat but as the fetus is only measuring 4mm they said they wouldn't expect to see one until it was 6mm. They put on the ultrasound report that they think I'm about 5.9 weeks along. I am booked in for another scan on 28 December to see if they can detect the heart beat. The irregular gestational sac can be a sign of the pregnancy collapsing so am a bit worried but I'm going to stay positive, take it easy and wait the long wait until the 28th! Been reading up on the net (as you do) and found that a bleed can affect the shape of the gestational sac and I'm wondering if this has happened. Pls keep ur fingers crossed for me on the 28th! And thanks again. xx

my fingers are crossed for you hun, hope all goes ok on the 28th
take care and put your feet up
