Sid's code doesnt seem infected to me but it's not as dry as Hebe's was and it's got a slight odour.....

I really want to put some talc on it but the MW said to just wash it more and then keep it dry. It's hanging on by a thread so it wont be long coming off.

Anyone else had a baby with a funny smelling cord?

Yes Rosie's smelled a little bit, I just let the air get to it as much as possible by rolling her nappy down :)

Thanks chick. I'm using cloth nappies but I think I'll just switch back to disposables for a few days so I can roll the front down till it drops off :)

Aww bless him; I was surprised at how quickly Rosie's dropped off :) how are you going with cloth nappies, which ones are you using? off topic I know..

I've bought a variety and I have to say I am very impressed so far. Just washed my first load which were Tots Bots Bamboozles and they came up perfectly - even after some nice yellow BF poo dodged the liner! Today he's had Itti Bitti D'Lish on and they are wicked too and sooooooooo cute and fluffy!!

Brill, Im going to use Tots Bots too, plus some Mothercare cloth ones - I can't wait! :)

I got a mixture so I can see which I like - so far so good though! Definitely a must for newly breastfeeding mums because unlike disposables, you can see how much they are weeing which shows you they are getting plenty of milk :)

I think I am going to use my HIP grant to start my collection, but don't really know where to start on choosing the best cloth nappies...

The advice I was given was to get a few different brands and types and see what you like and what works well for you. :)

Jack had a stinky cord, I got the MW out but was told it was fine and that they do smell on some babies. It fell off about 24 hours later. When my mum was changing him. I think she helped it fall off ;)

I love my tot bots bamboozles they make up the vast majority of my collection. I coldn't get on with itti's Jack had a knack of weeing out the leg hole :wall: Now we just use bamboozles and bum genius. The bum genius are only on the days he wont sit still for changing. I can put them ones on as he escapes

Niamh had a smelly cord (along with a long list of other things!!)
But Niamh's cord was also slighty red, I asked the nurses in hospital but they said it was fine! It wasn't though! by the time my midwife came on ward the next day she said it was infected and there was a discharge aswell. It was a real mess, she had to have antibiotics (this was the one time the feeding tube came in handy cause you can pop anything down without them tasting it!!) She almost had to have a procedure done to corterise (sp!) it!
Just one of the many times we had poor care!

When Kian was a baby, we had a powder you had to sprinkle on the cord till it dropped off, I wonder why they don't give that anymore?

Kierans cord was a bit smelly for a few days but my MW said it was fine. I soppose when you think about it, its rotting flesh :puke: so its bound to wiff a bit xx

ella's cord smelt and was sticky for ages! i got some fucidin cream in the end from the docs cos it wasnt really infected, jut a bit mingin!!

I dont know why they dont give you that powder anymore.....daft really as it seems obvious that drying it will speed it up. It's on a tiny little thread now...I think it'll be off by the morning.

My midwife gave us these little alcohol wipes to help it dry out and drop off! This is gross but when it actually came of I couldnt find it anywhere, a few days later my DH stood on it and didnt know what it was. He did the sniff test and nearly threw up! It was pretty gross but i asked him why on earth you would sniff something that had got stuck to your foot! minger!
