sterilising!1 when did you/ intend to stop??

We still sterilise Ryan's bottles but we've never bothered with bowls/spoons etc. I planned to stop at 12 months but after reading this I think we'll stop now. He's almost 12 months anyway :)

The HV said that the biggest reason that babies are admitted into hospital is for gastroenteritis where their bottles aren't sterilised properly.

how would the HV (or even docs at the hospital) ever know if it was caused specifically by bottles not being sterilised properly?! there are very many causes of gastroenteritis - the most common of which is viral... sorry hon, but i do think HVs talk a load of piffle sometimes!

I agree, in any case what they are worried about is that the bottles aren't cleaned properly in the first place...before sterilising.

If you've thoroughly cleaned the bottles in very hot soapy water you really won't have much to worry about! :D

N.B. Maia has only had one episode of D&V thus far and that was one all her peers had too!

I stopped around 6 months but still go back to sterilising his milk things when he has a poorly tum :)

I was blindly sterlizing bottles thinking you had to - my plan was the stop using bottles at 12 months and thus stop sterlizing. I have only ever sterilized bottles though. We started weaning at 6 months so never sterlized cutley or cups, or toys. She sticks all toys in her mouth, wherever we go, so there wouldn't be much point.

Stopped at 10months. I don't think there's any harm at stopping at 6months or 12 months, again I believe it a personel choice, I don't think stopping at 6months will do your LO any harm, personally :)

I thought it was 12 months...still steralise bottles but have never sterilised meal stuff just dishwashered them

i think il still do the bottles just out of habit...it only takes 6 mins :D

I sterilised James' bottles till he was 12 months. I think I did the bowls and spoons too!. That was the advice back then, I hadn't realised it had changed!
It makes sense not to sterilise after 6 months as they do put everything in their mouths anyway!
