hey gals!!

hope every1 is having a luuurrrrrvely bank hol weekend! i bloody love having extra days off work!!

anyhoo, just wondering about how long they kep u in hospital (roughly) after the birth of your LO?

we had the hosp tour last week and the midwife said that if you are BFing they may keep you in for 3 nights

i really aint keen on staying in there for that long, its ROASTING and id rather be at home with my own things around me.

If all goes to plan, i'm having a water birth with gas & air and maybe an epidural if necessary but id prefer just the g&a. so just wondering how long you guys were kept in?

fingers crossed ev goes to plan and there are no cpmplications!!! also, does BFing mean you have to stay longer? even if bubs is feeding fine? sorry for the ramble AGAIN lol x x x x x x x x

 6 hours.

My first baby too! I hadn't had any pain relief thoughso nothing to recover from as such and my tear was only little so I was quite mobile.

 In a way it would have been nice to stay in for a night though- just to get a bit of rest!

i was in 15 days but both me and hannah were poorly

Don't think it's anything to do with breastfeeding (unless your health board is a bit strange!) but if LO isn't feeding right they'll want to keep an eye on you. They can't make you stay though.

6 hours is usually the minimum but if you have an epidural or other drugs that make you a bit out of it they'll probably want to make sure you are well enough to leave and for an epidural they'll want to make sure there are no side effects and that you have full control of legs/bladder etc.

I had a few complications and was in for 3 days following her birth.

Erm can't comment on the stay time but just wanted to mention that if you have an epi you have to get out of the birth pool. Not sure if you were aware of that. At least not in my hospital anyways. An epi means bed for the duration then.

FWIW I found the pool brilliant for pain relief and didn't use much Entinox at all (homebirth so slightly different but recommened water for pain relief)

they cant make the mum stay hun but they CAN make the baby stay, i was able to leave after 6 days and said i was taking Hannah with me and they said they would make her ward of court if i tried taking her as in their oppinion she wasnt feeding right and had low blood sugar ( funny as soon as i got her home she had no problems  )

I had Finlay at twenty to five in the morning and could have gone home later that day but decided to stay in

I wish I had gone home - I wasn't relaxed and Finlay decided to be the loub baby of the room

LOL - didn't stop me sleeping through it :rotfl:

I was in for a week post birth and a week before birth :( my lo had trouble feeding, he was tube and cup fed and then got jaundice and had to go to neo natal.

It's only in our babies health interests that they keep babies in though, you have to keep that in the fore front of your mind. They're not going to keep mums and babies in for the sake of it.

Oliver was born at 9pm (water birth, g&a) and we were home by 3 the next afternoon, after we'd seen the paediatrician and hearing test people. I think originally they said I'd be staying 2 nights because he was my first but I was desperate to get out of there!

My hospital says 6 hours if everything goes well, but if it's your first baby then they require you to stay in for 24 hours.

i was let out after 6 hours but i wish i had stayed because i wasn't well and had to go back into hospital 5 days later- i was taken into a different hospital..they kept coming in my room and asking where my baby was and they gave me strong antibiotics, i had to stop breastfeeding and never managed to re-establish it.

I had to stay in for 2 nights as my BP shot up and my blood were all out of range after I had him

The first night wasn't too bad, I was kept on the delivery suite but the second night on the post natal ward was awful :( I wont go into it but I couldn't wait to get out of there and get home.

with james he was born 5.30am saturday morning (id had pethidine) and i went home 10am sunday.

with logan i had a water birth with a bit of g&a and went home 4 hours later

both times i was breastfeeding. i think its a lot easier to get the hang of breastfeeding at home in private when ur relaxed.
i still feel nervous breastfeeding in front of the health visitor!

i was in for 6 hours or less with all mine, hopefully this time they will let me stay at home

If you and LO are fine and you've not had any strong drugs ie epidural, then you can leave after 6hrs, they cannot keep you in  I ended up being in hospital for 8days and cried the whole time because Isaac wasn't well and I hated it, had planned a natural homebirth that went all drugged up and intervention, so just be prepared for a short or long stay, what's best for you and baby is best

With regards BF'ing, on the post natal ward they were fine, but when we were moved to transitional care they were very strict and wanted established, not really realistic with a newborn, sick baby

I had Caitlyn at 19.51 on the 5th and went home at 3pm on the 7th, we stayed a little longer due to Caitlyn having a low temp and low blood sugar levels.

She was struggling to feed but they said so long as i was happy she was having enough (she was weeing and pooing fine) we could go home!! The midwife came out for as long as i needed help with the breastfeeding which was 6 days, and the HV is coming out on the 28th (was Caitlyns due date) :)

I stayed for 2 nights and im glad i did it gave me a lovely rest and also meant my visitors came to the hospital so when i did go home i wasnt bombared with people coming round.

LO was small so they wanted to make sure she was feeding well.

My hospital have said the usual is 6 hours but you can go before providing you and baby are ok and you have peed! Lol.
But they also offer the option of up to 3 nights in there.

I'm going for a homebirth so i hope not to go there at all!

With my first I was in for 3 days as he wasnt latching on properly!
I was desperate to go home and it upset me! With Dillon I was home after 6 hours and have always regretted it! I wish I would have just had that one night with him! :(
I stayed in 1 night with my DD and this time Im hoping they let me stay for a week?! haha nope only jokin but at least one night!
