Hi to all my PCOS sisters. I just want to share some of the things I've learned about PCOS, things that help ovulation, etc b/c I figure it's great that it's helped me and even better if I can help someone else who's trying to conceive and having trouble.

I had irregular periods and lots of trouble ovulating for my ENTIRE life until I did two very simple things: I started drinking at least a litre and a half of water every day and I switched to sweeteners in my hot drinks instead of sugar.

Let's face it - your body needs a HELL of a lot of water to function properly. I found the easiest way to do this was just to get a big bottle of water and keep it near me (on my desk at work or next to me while watching tv, etc). I tended to drink it w/o even thinking about it, and it really helped not only my body function properly but helped me with UTIs (I tended to get them frequently) and with not feeling so tired all the time.

And everyone with PCOS does (or should) know about the sugar problem - PCOS is obviously linked to blood sugar issues, so the less sugar and complex carbs you can put into your body the better. Unfortunately, this includes things like potatoes, bread and pasta, and frequently includes things like milk and yoghurt. But, I found the biggest cuplrit for me was sugars in my teas and coffees - it's amazing how much of that crap you can get through in a day without realising it. Switching to sweeteners (I used the pills) dramatically decreased my daily sugar intake.

Within about a month my cycle started to regulate just after doing these two things, and I got pregnant for the first time in July. Sadly, it wasn't meant to be this time and our little one went to heaven just this week, but the fact that I am able to get pregnant means the world to me and I am looking forward to trying again once we heal from this sadness.

I'm a big advocate for trying natural means before chemical-filled prescription drugs, and I bought, read and thoroughly enjoyed the book 'Taking Charge of your Fertility' by Toni Weschler, which is basically a guide to naturally tracking your fertility. It's fascinating and an easy read, and for those of you who would like to save a bit of money on ovulation strips, etc, I highly recommend it, not only for that reason but because I feel that every woman should know what their body is trying to tell them.

Sorry if I sound like a 'know-it-all'; I just know that I tried for ages to find a solution to my problem, and this worked for me, and if I can help someone else with the same problem, even better. Best of luck!!

Hey, congrats! :cheer: I know that's a tough thing to do - I've done it myself. Sweet potatoes and broccoli are big time recommended, too - I like to steam them. Also, stay WELL away from soya as it wreaks havoc on female hormones & the reproductive system - it's not as good for you as the media would have you believe! :shhh: :D

That's interesting  as I was a veggie for 7 years so nearly all the time whille ttc as it took us 5 years with 3 years of fertility treatments. I'm know longer a veggie as craved steak throughout pregnancy. We will be trying for no.2 end of next year so will see if having no soya has any effect.

Just to add I lost a lot of weight then had IUI which is how I fell pregnant. In the past when I've kept my weight right down so I was bordering on skinny I've had periods otherwise I usually don't ovulate at all.

Hi I have only just seen this for some reason

Thank you soooooo much for posting this information

I have been told I have PCOS but I have had NO information on what I can do to help my body naturally. I went to see the speacialist (SP) last week and she was all doom and gloom not one word of encouragement what so ever she said about putting me on to some fertility drugs and even spoke about IVF but she never said anything about the sugar intake.

Thank you once again you have helped me soooo much

 hello, I am also one of the PCOS sufferers. I have spent days reading all possible links on internet during my long TTC journey. I drove myself insane at times

There are number of ways to treat PCOS and I have found this website very helpful and informative:

http://pcos.insulitelabs.com/?campain=g ... 1Aod7XEcQg

After seeing an endocrynologist I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance ( sugar problem) and started taking Metformin ( a drug that you can read about on the website I posted) . I was very fortunate and after more than a year of TTC and one miscarriage I have managed to ovulate and get pregnant within 2 months.

PCOS makes getting pregnant more difficult but it will happen for all of you. Lots of baby dust xxx

Many thanks for your additional info. I know not everyone wants to go the 'no drugs' route, and I know that Metformin has been very helpful for people in the past. I personally am a bit anti-drugs unless it's the last option, but I know I'm probably in the minority in that. :D Congrats on your pregnancy!

 Hey hun, I am doing great thanks. Getting really excited about meeting my little man. I can not wait :cheer:

I wasn't sure about going down the drug route either.. but I have tried lots of herbal teas, accupuncture, change of diet etc. When I finally managed to get pregnant I miscarried due to the hormonal imbalance that PCOS brings. I was devastated and my endocrynologist suggested Metformin. I started taking it and we conceived really quick. I was taking Metformin until 15 weeks in order to regulate my hormones until placenta took over.. I don't want to sound negative or scare you but I think you should know that sometimes body needs more help...
Lots of
