Hi Everyone this is my first pregnancy so it’s all brand new to me but I am struggling with all day sickness at the minute it’s more nausea than vomiting. I’m not coping well because my appetite has completely gone I’m having to force myself to eat,I have tried several things to ease the symptoms like ginger, ice lollies, crackers. If anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful. Thank you

Sorry you are unwell. But all I can say is... welcome to 1st trimester. I was the same. Feeling a bit better now. Hopefully you too will start feeling better towards the end of tri 1 x

First tri is pretty rough. All normal though. Don't let your stomach be empty as that makes the nausea worse. Try eating crackers or rich tea biscuits in bed before getting up on the morning. Little, plain and often. Ginger never worked for me but lemon in water did . Even just smelling a cut lemon. Citrus can help ease nausea. Almost 12 weeks and still getting the nausea and sickness I'm afraid. . hopefully you feel better soon. Xx

How far along are you? Honestly I've had hyperemesis which means I've been sick the entire pregnancy not just the first trimester so I feel you hunny its horrendous! I found the best thing to ease the nausea was actually mint, I went through several packs of polos a day, couldn't keep anything else down.

At 36 weeks I'm now able to keep more food down but still feel sick all the time. I did get antiemetics (anti sickness) meds from the doctor but I had a bad reaction to one (the second one which dissolved on my gums because I was too sick to keep tablets down). After that docs wouldn't give me anything else because my body basically couldn't have coped with another bad reaction. So unfortunately I just had to suffer through it but honestly, as much as its been an ordeal I am NEARLY there and in the end it will all be worth it.

Try your doc for advice and don't take "eat ginger biscuits" as a diagnosis - ask for antiemetics

I also recommend mint, I found that only peppermint had an effect though. Whenever I started to feel the nausea I would have a mint or 2 and it would help to stop the sickness kicking in. Also a god send for me was classic coke! I have always suffered with migraines but in the first trimester they were just constant and I was finding it hard to cope, missing work, not able to do house work etc. I found that after a can of coke it would ease off enough for me to actually function enough to get through the day, it eased the headache, helped with sickness and various other symptoms. Obviously its full of sugar and caffeine so try to only have it days you really need it (just 1 can) but it really, really helped me get through those first months. Thankfully the second trimester has been much easier for me so try to just hang in there, it does get easier for most of us (the more fortunate ones!) :)

I second coke or just fizzy drinks in general as the bubbles help with the nausea too and it makes you burp which relieves some of the nausea too. Its actually less than 40mg caffeine per can (you can have up to 200mg per day safely) so you can have another can if you really need it but just keep an eye on how much you're having

I feel you with the nausea but the I’ve got the all day sickness and struggling to keep anything down, still haven’t found anything to Kiev the nausea and I think I must have tried everything that everyone told me, I have anti sickness tablets which do help a little but twice I’ve been in hospital with dehydration so far.
It’s so hard but I keep getting told it’ll pass but we will see! Need to stay strong!!

I like many others had horrific sickness the first few months and could only manage to eat certain things. The best things I found that helped me function through the day were peppermints (have one as soon as you start to feel the nausea), classic coke helped with both sickness and migraines but try not to have too much and only when you really need it. Also I had really bad travel sickness so as soon as I made it to work I just wanted to throw up every 2 minutes, however if I had a pack of crisp before setting off and when I arrived it really did help. I also carried around sealable bags to be sick in and contain the smell if I wasn't around a bin and had to carry it around with me lol. Different things work for different people but everything is worth a shot!
Hopefully it wont last too long, good luck :)

I had really bad nausea at the start too, every afternoon till I went to bed. I second what Shanivy said, and would add dry cereal helped me survive at work! I used to have a few boxes by my desk to just munch on handfuls!

I totally understand, at the very beginning, before i even found out that i was pregnant, i suffered really bad with sickness, it would last all day long. I even took time out of work. When i had my first appointment with the midwife, she told me to try ginger biscuits and drinks and i've found that to be brilliant, even though i'm not a big fan of the ginger taste.
I'm 14 weeks now and i juat have a sickness feeling first thing in the morning. It seems to have settled down alot.
I still have 2 ginger biscuits with my cup of tea in the morning though.
