Good morning Ladies,

Sorry if TMI!!!

This might just be me overthinking things but i have noticed that whenever i have sex i am really sick the next day.

My pregnancy seems to have been fairly easy really compared to other peoples stories and i cant complain at all but every few days i have really bad sickness (I cant eat or drink anything at all without bringing it straight back up), i have diarrhea in the morning and i usually have a headache. This usually lasts for the full day and theres nothing i can eat, take or wear to stop it.

I was sat trying to work out what might trigger it because like i said it isnt every day that im like this and most days im absolutely fine. I then realised that the last few times at least have been the day after i have sex. I used to get diarrhea the day that my period was due (presumably due to the higher hormones in my system). Now that im pregnant me and my OH dont bother using condoms or anything and he usually just finishes inside me and i know that sperm is full of hormones which get into our system so im wondering if maybe that increase in hormones is what makes me sick.

Since realising that maybe it was sex thats made me ill i mentioned it to my OH and he seems to have taken it really personally and doesnt want to have sex because he would rather me not be ill than have sex. But all the times we have had sex recently i have been really sick the next day.

Do you think that maybe its that thats making me sick or that im just overthinking things?

Thanks

Gem xx

Er, sperm don't give you a dose of hormones... I'd say that's not the cause!! Honestly if you're in tri 1 there's probably no trigger. Sometimes you're fine, sometimes you're really struggling. That's just early pregnancy unfortunately! IF sex was causing any side effects (eg cramps, nausea) they would be almost instant, and wouldn't last long. Symptoms the next day won't be related.

Sperm contains 2 sorts of hormones and endorphins etc which all get into your system...
I’m 18 weeks and didn’t suffer any morning sickness or anything and this seemed to start at about 14 weeks

You can absorb hormones (not endorphins though), but the teeny tiny amount in semen isn't going to cause any changes in your body. I really doubt it's semen making you sick, but you could try wearing a condom next time and seeing if that helps. If it really is semen making you sick, you might be one of the lucky people who becomes allergic to it!

Have you kept a food diary? Changed any cleaning products lately? You might have developed an intolerance to something. Sometimes it's really hard to pinpoint what.. If there's no obvious trigger it's probably worth seeing a doctor about.

I'm sorry you're feeling rotten. I hope you can figure it out soon x
