Should prostitution be legalised?

I vote yes it should be made legal. Lots of people have already expressed all the reasons I woul d have put so won't add them again.

The only thing I will say is that heroin addicts such as the girls who were murdered by the Suffolk strangler, would be unlikely to gain a job in an establishment as it would be bad for the establishments image and may still end up on the streets where they would be targets for this kind of crime, and for men who were looking to pay a lower price or simply got a kick out of being able to take them to wear they wanted to do what they wanted.

So yes, prostitution should be legal but I don't think it is a complete solution.

Yes i thinjk it should be legalised. I also think all druggs should be legalised too.

are you for real? why all drugs if you are being serious? If you just been silly then

because it would stop the black market. (thats the main problem) drugs would be ALOT less dangerous if they wernt mixed with all the crap they are now, if it was legal it could be policed better.

An interesting point of note here, not all prostitues are women. We seem to be seeing it as only a female thing when its not, far from it.

Men pay to have sex with other men. Women hire male escorts and often have sex with them... its part of the 'service' But they are still paying for it at the end of the day. Hell, even transexuals ply their trade (I know I've seen them in Amsterdam and they made a tidy living out of it, and unless someone was totally thick you could not miss they had had a sex change or were in the process of one).

It suits some people who don't want any strings attached. Just sex, nothing else. Some don't want to have to make small talk and chat up someone in a bar, so choose to pay someone instead. I'd rather that than think somone was led on, had casual sex and then regretted it afterwards as the other person was never heard from again. If someone is happy to indulge in casual sex with a stranger, they are risking a whole heap of danger, not only from attack, but unplanned pregnancy to sexually transmited diseases.

Better a person pays for sex to someone who is registered, professional and paying taxes who has access to regular medical check ups and unless given a clean bill of health STD wise, is not licensed. Condoms always worn, if not no sex.

Any number of reasons a person opts to pay for sex instead of seeking it for free. Not all of them are bad reasons nor should someone be made to be a criminal because of it.

I think this is a whole thread of its own.

im not sure. to me, i find it awful that some women (yes i know some dont) choose to go into this, a family friend's daughter (who i grew up with and was close to) became a prostitute at around 15 years old, she still is now and works in a brothel, i find it safer for her to be working in a brothel than on the streets but i dont think it should be legalised, well i dont think i do, for more of the same reasons as someone mentioned about their children growing up thinking it is 'OK' to become a prostitute because its legal!!

hmm....a toughy!!

If it was legalised the brothels might be forced to keep a better eye on the girl so they'd be safer however I don't agree in the idea of prostitution in the first place!
