Hi girls,

Since the start of this pregnancy I've been ridiculously thirsty and constantly feel dehydrated. I don't drink tea/coffee, fizzy drinks...just gallons of water, yet I'm constantly thirsty. I've mentioned it at every MW appointment but diabetes tests were clear. My mouth constantly feels like I've just had a bowl of dry cereal :mad:and I'm soooooo tired/lethargic/light headed..

Anyway, just got a letter through from the hospital saying I'm anaemic and to visit my GP....could this be the reason for the above?? Is severe thirst a symptom?

Thanks

X

Ooo I don't know. But today I have been extremely thirsty and I'm on iron tablets (have been for 8weeks now) but I had a takeaway yesterday and think the salt content was too high which is why I'm thirsty.

Not sure if it's an anemic symptom or not , I have been anemic in all my pregnancies and so far my bloods this time around are stable, for now! But I have been extremely thirsty since the beginning, ice cold water is what I like. Or ice pops too. Im
Being tested for diabetes again at 28 weeks but my sugar levels have been ok. Maybe it's just the extra blood volume with being pregnant.? X

Claire, that sounds exactly like me! The thirst, constantly tired/lethargic, light-headed feeling - which I'd thought might be blood-sugar related but if it's so similar to your symptoms perhaps it could be anaemia. I've not heard anything from the docs yet after my bloods done, but they were taken a week after my MW appointment (several screw-ups on her part...! grr) so I'd just been waiting to see. It really is hard feeling so low on energy, just everything is an effort! xx

Thanks girls, appreciate your replies :) I suppose I'm kinda hoping my symptoms are related to the anaemia as this means perhaps there is hope that iron tablets will sort it out?!..

It's really hard to describe how I've been feeling, almost like I'm on the brink of getting a cold which doesn't quite materialise..just really crappy. Would love to have energy again!

Keep an eye on your fluid intake and also how much you are going to the loo.
towards the end of my I was drinking at least 4-6 litres of fluid a day, constantly at the toilet and I mentioned it to my midwife who took bloods I never heard back so assumed there was no issues and it was just one of those things, it wasn't until I was in hospital after having my son I was diagnosed with diabetes insipidus (along with other things) which effects the way your kidneys work meaning you barely retain any of the fluids. It is very rare though but if you feel something isn't right push for answers I wish I had.

Thanks hun, I definitely drink at least that. I use one of the big volvic water bottles and tend to have about 4 of them when I'm at work alone, so that's 6 litres. When I'm at work I go to the toilet about every half hour. I'm going to the GP's today for iron tablets so I will mention it, thanks x
