Ok so we have a regular monitor but I'm just wondering what everyones opinions on the sensor mat monitors (like angelcare and Tomy ones) are? Are they great at putting your mind at ease and fears to rest?
I'd be like that too! Checking him anyway x we don't use the monitor we have yet but will be doing soon and I'll be checking it constantly I just know it!!!
I got a tommee tippee one 2nd hand, I wasnt prepared to pay the price tag of £110 but its def given me piece of mind. especially times like when he first slept through and this morning he slept til 8.45 I wouldve got up to check on him but instead i opened one eye a bit and watched the light flash as he breathed and got straight back to sleep. its really good in the evenings cos hes in bed by 8 and we're downstairs, quite often i get nervous that its 'too quiet' but dont need to disturb him to check his breathing.
on the other hand the tommee tippee one is a pain cos it buzzes at anything but the lowest volume setting and ive read lots of online reviews saying the same. the problem is if the volume is down, the 'alarm' volume is quiet too stupid feature. we turn the volume down when we're giving LO 5 mins to see if he settles himself but noone in their right mind wouldnt want to be disturbed if their baby stops breathing!!
I'd get an angelcare if your getting one, wish we did.
Ive had Angelcare ones with both my girls and swear by them, got the new updated one for this bubs, i would recommend them to anyone, puts my mind at ease and never had a problem with them.
I've got the angelcare one and have had it since she came home and it is amazing! Ella slept in her own room for the first time last night and we were completely calm about it knowing how good the monitor is. It cuts out all the gristly noises and you only hear proper cries meaning that they can settle themselves back down before they wake you. Also the breathing sensor was recommended to us by the neonatal unit and we've found it very reassuring.
Seb'll be in with us for a while yet in his cot but we want to be able to put him in his cot at night and come downstairs without worrying x I'd do it Tiny!!! Buy it!!!! x think I'll check eBay on Friday!
TOMY have brought out a mat that u can use with ANY of their DIGITAL monitors woohooo ... i had the tommee tippee sensor monitor but was crackly and my friend with angelcare said hers was crackly too.... the digital is amazing!! xx
While I can see the benefit (like tiny says, seeing the light to show breathing etc) I haven't bought one because I think it would make me over vigilant and therefore over anxious. We have a very good regular monitor and I check on him each time I go upstairs and as he still wakes a couple of times in the night I'm in and out at night times too.
we dont have a monitor atall.. if noa is not with us hes just in the next room n i check him every 5-10 min. he sleeps right next to me n even if i sleep i react on every funny breathing noise
I had the tommee tippee monitor wiv my youngest and it was a god send. It used to quietly click wiv each breath so I could sleep easy. U have to remember to turn the alarm off wen gettin baby out the crib tho cos the alarm used to scare the life out of me lol xx
my mum always forgets to turn off the sensor when she gets him up, supposedly to give us a lie in. whenever that alarm goes off in my room i jump out of my skin and cant get back to sleep!!
Isobel-I know what you mean about waking up at every funny noise. I'm thinking about in a couple of months when we'll put him to bed in his cot in our room before we go to bed so we can have some 'us' time x
