Sensor mats-yay or nay?

we've recently mastered getting LO into bed before 8pm and having 'us' time. Its done our relationship the world of good. Even if we just eat dinner and chat then cuddle up on the sofa watching rubbish on tv its lovely I actually feel like I get a break from mummy duties. Morgan settles really well and doesnt kick off at all in the evenings which is fab :cheer:

definately recommended when they get a bit older.

Sebastian is super at settling himself in his cot (when he's not poorly) x I couldn't do it just yet but like you say Tiny, when he's a little older x x I've been much closer to my OH since the birth so the 'us' time would make it even better!

ive told my health visitor about my worries on ot death and she gave me a pack and told me all the statistics on cot death, i have to temperature monitors up near the moses basket..and she explained about blankets and how many should be used.. And told me that its better for jack to be cooler than hotter.. I feel a little more at ease now but i still check alot hehe x

Angelcare all the way!! We've had two false alarms when Ross had managed to get right up to the top of the bed when he was much smaller, but it turned out I had shifted the sensor pad when I had changed his bed. My concern isn't the crying, cause you hear when they're awake, it's the silence! Especially when they are on their tummies it can be hard to see them breathing, and I assume if a LO was to stop breathing they wouldn't do it 'loudly' to set off a normal monitor. So sorry, not trying to freak anyone out! Just trying to say that you don't have to watch the monitor for lights or whatever when you know the alarm will ring out if there was a problem. Your mind soon settles into that idea, and of course like Emmamb said you get a big reminder if you forget to switch it off before lifting bubs.
Tiny that is a good price, think we paid £60 when it was on offer, but I've seen it more recently in Tesco for £50. Hunt around. I definately would not be without ours!!

I agree you know you dont have to check cos the alarm would go if anythings wrong. Ours went off once and I actually think LO held his breath. He had been seriously sick everywhere and I ran in and as I did he looked at me wide eyed took a deep breath and screamed. part of me wonders whether the shock of me bursting in and turning on the light trigered him to breathe again. makes me feel sick whenever i think about that night.

I think that's why the angelcare one sets off the alarm beside baby too, to give it a wee startle. Does your one do that too Tiny? In a really horrible way at least you know it works, we have never moved so fast, OH lept out of bed and he never hears Ross fussing or crying.

yeah the tommee tippee alarms by the baby too. think you could be right there. Id had a c section and usually took about 5 mins to get out of bed. when we had a false alarm I dont think my feet touched the carpet between my bed and his crib!!! he was just grinning at me, i had moved the sensor changing the sheets too :P

lol, love their wee smiley faces when you are all in a panic!

my OH got an app on his iphone which monitors noise and if jack cries it plays a noise, we have it set on womb.. But when he first got it i said i was worried as i said '' he might think his back in the womb and forget to breath'' my OH just laughed at me and told me to relax.. I think i might buy one of these alarmed.monitors.. You girls should be in sales :) x

I wish we had shares in the things now ;) It's probably been our best purchase yet, and even went to Spain with us on holiday. Our one has a room thermometer in it too and you can set the alarm for minimum and maximum room temps. We had to switch it off on holiday, no way we could get the caravan awning below 29degrees even with the fans on :)

My hv told me all this too but.......I still worry! It's my biggest fear!

I'm definately going to look into one just for peace of mind!

I dont like freezing my LO either :( to behonest I dont really trust their advice. First it was advised to put babies on their fronts, now its on their backs, then you need to keep them wrapped up warm, now theyre practically advising you to freeze the little ones. I dont think they really know what causes cot death. Does anyone know if theres been a change in cotdeath rates since the 'back to sleep' campaign?

No idea tiny! Seb complains and won't sleep if he's cold or hot. I agree that I'm wary with their advice-no one knows what causes it-which is probably why it terrifies me!

No idea, I was also looking at cot bumpers again too. Ross loses every dummy down the back of his cot as he spits it out once he's in a deep sleep, it's like an arcade game pulling the cot away from the wall and they all drop down! I thought maybe I could put it just along the back wall and on the outside of the cot, behind the rails so he can't smoosh up against it. He ends up all over the cot anyway, I suspect he's sussed out rolling from back to front now :)

Aw bless him! We only don't have a bumper because a) I couldn't find one I liked an b) I don't really see the point-although you obviously have a point which is to stop losing dummies! x

our LO has started thrusting himself backwards when hes lying down. He bumped his head on the top of the crib last week. I guess thats why they call them bumpers. My HV has scared me into not putting it back on but thinking about it the greater risk is him hurting himself really

i was really wondering which 1 was best...

ive got the tommee tippiee one, but havnt used it yet (cos bubs isnt here, lol)

i had herd people say the same about the crackling thing, but went for it purly cos i was skint, its brand new in the box from boots for £20 inc postage.... what i didnt realise is the guy i got it from on ebay steels to order and thats why it took 2 weeks to get here and then still had the tag on from boots, i shite myself when i opened it up and it was ticking & flashing still!!

i think if i dont get along with it tho once babys in there own room, il get the angelcare one and leave tommee at nans, cos baby wont be staying there too often, lol

xxx

OMG so he takes orders off ebay, then goes out and steals to order?!?! Thats awful. Id be tempted to report him, otherwise youre just incriminating yourself too. This is the last thing you need at this stage

I dont have a monitor at all, I am in a bungalow and can hear the kids bedrooms from the living room and i wake if i hear anything in the night xx
