Hi,
This might sound like a daft question but I'm into the 6th week of my pregnancy and I wondered when do most people tend to have their scans?

Congrats!!
I think it varies as to where you live...here as soon as you have been to docs for confirmation, you wait for booking in appointment. This is normally between 10-12 weeks but I am having mine wednesday as I got my BFP straight away and was at the docs he following day.
We get a scan, and health check then they book you in for a 20 week scan and give you the date for that when you are there.
Other gals on here may have different scans, as I say I think it depends on your region.....

Hey Charm,

Nice one your pregnant! I'm 10 weeks now. Due 20th Dec 06. I have my first scan at 12 weeks, which is only a week and a half away! I'm so exicted already i know i'm not going to sleep much the night before. I hope you are well. I'll let you not what having the scan is like and how it goes.

Look after yourself

Hi Charm,
It really does vary from one health authority to another. I only get one scan, which is meant to be at week 18 (I'm still waiting for mine!!)

Here we get a booking appointment at 10 weeks, a dating scan at 12 weeks and another scan at 20 weeks.

Thanks for all the advice.

I had a miscarriage 6 months ago, The foetus had only grown to 6 weeks but had a missed miscarriage at 9.5 weeks. So I didn't know anything was wrong.
I'm fine now, just a little worried this time around.

I was thinking of making an appointment with my doctor and telling him that I'm not sure of my dates and hope they send me for a dating scan in a couple of weeks. I think I just need to get past the 9 weeks and see a heartbeat to prove to myself everything is ok and hopefully relieve a bit of the worry.
What do you reckon?

Last time around the doctor wasn't interested, I had to leave a sample because it wasn't worth bothering the doctor - apparently!
I rang the NHS helpline who advised me to ring the doctor. I did the next morning and he was supposed to ring me back, so a few hours later I rang again and he had gone home!
So If I tell the doctor I'm worried because I know his reaction will be to wait and see...not a great help.

Sorry for the long post! By the way I live near Manchester.

My midwife said that there is really no need to check in with the doctor nowadays once you know you are pregnant, because most don't even do urine tests, as the home tests are so accurate. My midwife now tells people to contact her direct once they know they are pregnant and go straight to her instead of seeing the doctor first. So if your doctor isn't interested, perhaps you could try your midwife instead??

Hi Snowbunny, Thanks for replying.

I don't actually have a midwife, I never have.
Last time my doctor advised me to ring my local hospital EPU department and I made an appointment and saw the nurses there.
Thinking about it I might just ring them instead, although I'm not sure if they will act without me discussing things with my doctor first.
I'll give them a try tomorrow and see what they say.

Thanks for the advice!
Charm X
