Just checked my diary and realised I am due to run a 5k three months after my csec; I only have known about the csec this week so not really planned this well.

I've not been very active during pregnancy for various reasons and am waayyyy out of shape, so will feel like I am starting from scratch when I am even close to running again, so am thinking this run is going to be doubtful???

Anyone else got any info on when they started/felt comfortable with gentle exercise after their csec?

I am desperate to get back into things but know I can't push it once baby has arrived.

I think its realistic to walk the 5 k and you might feel fine jogging little bits but like you say its fitness too rather than just the section bit. After my first I went back to icehockey after just 3 weeks but it was fitness that let me down!! I was fitter and younger then. Nowadays i get back to normal and start doing proper exersize after 8-10 weeks. See how you feel but no reason why you cant walk it with baby in carrier or pushchair instead. If you recover fast then run it but go easy rather than for the race win :)

Thanks JJ - even in my 'peak fitness' going for the race win is way beyond my abilities ;) I'll be bringing up the rear regardless!! ;) Just depends on by how much I guess! :)

I'm just coming up to 12 weeks post c section and there's not a farts chance in hell I could run the length of my own body never mind a 5K!

It's generally recommended you don't do anything until after your six weeks check and I've also been given conflicting advice about waiting until 12 weeks for really strenuous stuff.

Every one is different and every csection is different. I was physically struggling after having my first csection for almost three months afterwards, mainly because of my iron levels being low. My second was a breeze in comparison, and I was feeling back to myself by about six weeks. Like I said, I'm not going to be running any time soon, but I can comfortably walk a 5k.

I doubt I'd have been able to walk 5k at 3 months post c-sec. My recovery was really good and I was on my feet after only a few days and walking a small distance by a couple of weeks. I was quite physically active before the birth, was walking the dog at least 2 miles etc. I just found walking and my physical fitness had been completely killed by it.

It might be totally possible but I wouldn't push yourself towards it as overdoing it after a c-sec can actually hinder your recovery
