Hi mummies! My little DD2 is soon 3 weeks old, and I am struggling with her inability to sleep. I know she is still tiny & it is normal for them to find it hard at night but everyone seems to say 'my baby's fine in the day in her basket but then won't settle at night...' My baby doesn't settle ever! She wakes herself up by moving her arms and legs around. I would love a nap in the daytime when my toddler naps too but it never happens, despite her starting off being fast asleep. We have had some success with swaddling at night.
Just wondered if anyone could reassure me that their little ones started off with sleeping issues & then came out the other side... It doesn't help that DD1 was a great sleeper from the start & I know she wasn't like this... I have convinced myself DD2 is never going to let me sleep!

I started to teach my LO about day and night from very early (probs 3 week) in the day we would be very loud, all lights on, play games, Tele on during naps and then at night everything dark as possible, no tele, no talking etc.. I also started a bed time routine from about 6 week, 6pm bath bottle then bed! He's 18 week now and still has bath at 6pm then bottle and bed, he sleeps through til 6.30am! I got him in a feeding schedule from early on to! I used a book called contented little baby it's brill xxx

When I say sleeps through, he does wake in the night but he gets himself off back to sleep, he doesn't need us to go in as he doesn't cry he just talks to himself lol xxx

My lo used to wake himself up with the startle reflex too. I once read about baby hammocks, and the idea was that their reflex would set them off rocking and they'd rock back to sleep.

They're not cheap, say £200 if I remember right, but id pay that for a decent nights sleep haha.

They're only suitable.up to a certain age and my lo was too old by the time I discovered them.

I have some good and bad news - both my boys are crap sleepers Riley refuses sleep and Malachy catnaps. Exhausted was not the word! However, things have gradually improved for both. Malachy now does 10-4, then 5-7am and Riley has slept through from 12 weeks (although he still fights it)

Daisy is the same lovely. She's asleep on me now and has been for the last couple of hours since her feed. I know if I tried putting her down she's wake up straight away so i don't even bother! She sleeps not too bad at night as long as she's right there next to me and I can just out my hand on her to reassure her and help her back off but I'm co sleeping to make feeding easier. Hoping she'll not take too long to get the hang of sleeping by herself soon although I do love the sleepy cuddles :)

Thanks Ams - I'm just not used to it as her sis was quite happy in her basket from the get go, with the occasional sleep on me. On the plus side, we have managed to get her to sleep in her poddle pod for naps for the past couple of days & next to me instead of on me at night, so fingers crossed she is going to carry this on as her crimbo present to mummy!
